I'm beginning to schedule my fourth year rotations. I'm thinking of going into FP and I would like to stay in the midwest area. Just wondering if anyone could recommend some good places to do an away rotation-- i.e. lots of autonomy, great people, housing, all that sort of good stuff.

I am particularly intererested in the Kansas City area, but anywhere in the midwest is fine. Any recommendations?

I would also check out Lincoln, NE and Wichita's two programs. Both are less than 3 hours from KC.

I know that Lincoln offers nice free housing and free food. I rotated there last year and it offers a lot of autonomy. They schedule patients just for you and then you check them out to faculty just like the 1st year residents. I also got to do a lot of procedures like circumcisions, casting, etc.

Look at CoxHealth in Springfield, MO. I'm not going into FP but did my FP rotation there at their residency program and had a great experience. Faculty and residents are all very nice, genuinely interested in your education, and you get a broad variety of experiences including clinic, inpatient, and strong OB as they have a board-certed OB/GYN who supervises that portion of their training and teaches them to do c-sections. You can get housing in the hospital for free (ugh) but housing in the area is extremely cheap anyway. It's also an unopposed residency so there aren't other services jumping in to steal the cool stuff away 🙂

I rotated with a Cedar grad, according to him Cedar is one of those programs that always seems to be 'on the bubble' when it comes to its ongoing viability.

I can't imagine that last years flooding has helped the situation down there any.

Don't know anything about Quad.
