it is a great question, but I am pretty sure there are no great answers for you....
first thing to know is that you will likely not have any problem getting OB numbers anywhere. I would make sure you get a fair amount of operative vaginal deliveries. but, most everywhere will get you adequate SVDs and C/S.
as for gyn numbers, they are complicated. programs have different ways of reporting them. private cases may be done by the resident, or the resident may be a glorified retractor holder (most likely a combination of the above, depending on the private), but they can log the case as their own. there may be 4 residents scrubbing on the resident/clinic cases, so you may be dividing it up into many bits, with the chief getting credit for it. or any combination of the above. or some other method that i haven't heard of may be in place. in short, it will be tough to compare numbers across the board because they are likely to be calculated in different ways.
remember, at the end of residency it is simply up to your PD to state what you are qualified for. when you go out into the world the letter from the PD is much more important than any raw number. if the RRC is accrediting your program, then they obviously feel there are suffecient numbers for the residents to be well trained.
you can ask about any areas of defeciency at the last RRC review, and if case numbers for certain procedures are mentioned that may be a red flag.
finally, ask the chiefs. do they wish they had more cases? do they feel well prepared? what do they wish they did more of before they finished?
good luck
