What is a good set to buy that I can use for quite some time? I figure if i'm going to be spending 300+, i might as well get a good one. Anyone have any good recommendations?

Buy the inexpensive one. It is all you need and all you will find in the hospitals. No need to have somethig that will collect dust that costs twice as much. Besides, the new Panoptic one had to touch the pt. Anythign that has to touch a pt is going to get stuff on it, better to stay clean.

I strongly recommend doing a search on this topic. It has been addressed numerous times in the past. You will find a variety of opinions on this subject.

Don't buy it - unless you're thinking ahead for your "emergency lasik elective" :D Every clinic room has an ophthalmo/otoscope on the wall.

Don't buy the panoptic. You'll need to learn how to use a regular ophthalmoscope since that's all the hospitals have.
