Hey everyone,
What is a good ophthalmoscope that won't hurt the wallet too much? Price may be a smidge irrelevant if I purchase on ebay, so what's good.

How is the panoptic?
How about the pocket scopes, are they good?
Anyone know about this one?

just asking why you are interested in buying one. you won't need one in third year, even during the optho rotation (it can be borrowed usually). just don't want you to waste your money unecessarily.

We need one second year for a bedside exam course, and during some practicums in the community.

If I may make a case against a panoptic:

PROS
- Good for learning...you can see everything

CONS
- You will never use one again unless you bring your own
- Using a regular opthalmoscope after learning on a panoptic can be difficult
- Panoptic is large and bulky to carry
- Panoptic scares patients (weird, but true)

Check out Welch Allyn

And look into the eyes of some patients with a friends panoptic

I bought the WA pocket set when I was in med school. If you're going to buy one, you might as well buy something you can carry around easily.

The best one is the one you borrow from a friend.

Seriously.

Don't buy it. You're only going to use it twice.
