The two PM&R pain fellowships in the city are at HSS and BI, under Drs. Lutz and Gotlin/Kahn, respectively.
If you are willing to cross the river, Dr. Malanga, formerly of Kessler, is one of the world experts in sports and spine, and would be my first choice.
HSS is more of an intervention spine fellowship. Gotlin's BI sports fellowship has little focus on pain mgmt but is excellent for sports medicine. Reading through PASSOr's fellowship directory, it appears that Dr. Malanga's program is much more focused on Sports Medicine.
I am also curious to find out about the sports/spine fellowships in Buffalo and Rochester?

Dr. Geraci in Buffalo has lectured at RIC multiple times and I would highly recommend his fellowship if you're interested in sprots medicine. He's a great teacher and a personable guy.

Talk to someone that has finished Geraci's fellowship to find out what they really do and learn in the fellowship, particlularly if your interest is sportsmedicine.
True - should definitely talk to someone who did that fellowship. there's an attending at UPenn who completed that fellowship - forgot her name... and there's a RIC grad from last year who is there currently. I have not spoken to her since she started her fellowship.
