Good PDA?

Anybody know of a good PDA out there that is compatible with Windows Vista? My requirements are that it has to have wireless internet capability, but I would prefer to also have bluetooth. I'm looking to upgrade from my Palm Tungsten E to a fairly basic PDA that I can use for my LexiComp and checking email at school, in addition to calendar and address book, but that's about it. Thanks!

I have a Palm TX. It has bluetooth and WiFi although I hardly ever use either of them. I bought the TX when my Tungsten E died about a year and a half ago. The TX has been trouble free and I really enjoy it. Its a big step up from the TE.

There's no Vista compatible software for the TX yet, is there? That's the one I was leaning towards, but I don't think they're compatible yet. Please let me know if it is!

If you are really in pre-pharmacy, or even a current pharmacy student in your first or second professional year, you really dont need one. My suggestion is to wait until you get into rotations (since the pda will become cheaper and better). The chances of you taking a pda as a pre pharmacy or in your first and second professional year is almost minimum. Furthermore, subscribing to lexicom is expensive and like buying an extra textbook. Just my 2 cents.

I am pretty happy with my HP IPAQ. Easy to use, reliable, has WiFi and bluetooth, and decent memory. Also, relatively inexpensive.

As long as I need a new one, I thought I might as well get one with internet and one that is compatible with my new computer (right now, the only reason I am keeping my old laptop is for my PDA). I use a Tungsten C, which is several years old. I like the built in keyboard. I'm pretty fast typing with my thumbs. You may be able to find one on E-Bay. It has built-in Wi-Fi, too.

I'm not sure what software you want it to be compatble with, but I have Vista and I have no problems syncing (either by Bluetooth or with the cord). I do use Outlook 2003 still, so maybe that helps? The Palm software installed fine, but the Documents to Go software that came with it doesn't work with Vista and I had some problems getting it to sync at first. I uninstalled the Documents to Go and it has worked fine. You can use Bluetooth to transfer documents (though I just use my SD card), so it's not a necessary program anyway.

Are you getting LexiComp? If so, which package? Does your school require a specific package? I'm just trying to decide what package I should get, but I'm not really familiar with what each includes, so I thought I'd see what your school thinks you'll use. Thanks!

I did this about a month ago when I got my Palm, and it's been sufficient so far (I just started rotations this Monday). I will probably get Lexi eventually, but I didn't want to shell out the money for it so soon after spending ~$300 on the Palm.

That's a good idea. I forgot my school provides Micromedex as well. With so much new information as a P1, all these little details get lost in the shuffle! Thanks!

PS - I like your user name...someone who has the same sense of humor that I do! I wanted DRUGDLR to be my license plate as a pharmacist, but I think I'll get pulled over too much! And the old people probably wouldn't think it's very funny, but I like it anyway!

I purchased my Palm TX from newegg.com, and got a pretty good price from what I've seen. It was $260 and Best Buy here had them for $320. Other places online had them around $300. I have ordered a couple things from Newegg now and have been pleased with their service and speed.

I am not sure which package they require us to buy. It costs $70 and apparently we just get an activation code to download it. I haven't purchased it yet, but I may be driving up there tomorrow to purchase it and books (otherwise it will be Wednesday), so I'll let you know.

Broke down and bought the best...Dell Axim X51V. Barely used (guy bought it from Dell in April and used it less than a month)...came with the Rhino Case, 4GB SD card, and 8GB CF card...$250. Not bad! And I LOVE it! Haven't played with it much yet, because I have such a busy week (5 tests and a paper), but I'm looking forward to getting it completely set up this weekend! 😀
