Just a hint, don't go into your interview talking about "the massive health care crisis". Some of us are happy with the system.
Here is what a past president of the AMA had to say about this issue:
"In many states, physicians are unable to obtain medical liability insurance. And even if they can find insurance, many can?t afford it.
Patient access to care is now seriously threatened in Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia.
And pretty soon it?s going to reach a crisis point in Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as Arizona and Illinois.
The horror stories have been pouring into the AMA?s offices:
* In June, the last obstetrics unit in all of south Philadelphia, which has been delivering babies for over 150 years, was forced to close because of skyrocketing liability insurance rates.
* Clinics serving 60,000 patients in Washington State were forced to close under the insurance burden. Almost immediately, the ER at the nearest hospital developed a five-hour wait.
* In Wheeling, West Virginia and in northern Mississippi, you can?t find a practicing neurosurgeon.
* And in early July, Las Vegas? only Level-I trauma center had to shut down for 10 days. While the trauma center was closed, 150 trauma patients had to be transported to regular emergency rooms. Six of those patients died. Finally, Nevada legislators pulled together an emergency session ? and enacted legislation that provides some much-needed reforms."
