Hi,

I'm an IMG wanting to apply for ophthalmology this year. (I know my chances of getting in is pretty slim.)

I'm doing intern year in my home country and I've done 6 months of surgery and 1 month of medicine, with 5 months of medicine to follow. I'm surprised because I enjoyed general surgery a lot more than general medicine.

If I don't get a transitional year residency, I would like to do prelim surgery.

Does anybody know good prelim surgery programs? The things that are important to me (in decreasing order of importance) are:
1. Good location
2. H-1B visa support
3. 1 elective month if possible (I would like to do 1 month of neuroradiology elective, because I never had the opportunity to do it here)
4. Reasonable hours

My stats for what it's worth
Step 1 244/99
Step 2 269/99
Step 3 226/93
Medical school in English-speaking developed country
2 LOR's from Johns Hopkins

Thanks

Try surgery, not a transitional year because that's what you like.

Apply to ophthalmology in your home country.

What are developed English speaking countries? UK, Ireland, Australia, Singapore, Canada?

South Africa is sort of developed vs. developing.
