It says they require a biology professor and a "second science."

For the second science, could it from the professor I took Medical terminology from? It's offered by the health department at our school. Does this work? I TA'ed for her, so I know her.

If your medical terminology course is as hard core as analytical chemistry or p chem it would certainly qualify as a "second science". It appears, however, that you need some help in interpreting the directions given by Tufts: "Two letters of evaluation (One from a Biology professor and one from a Biochemistry, Chemistry, Math or Physics professor) or a pre-professional composite committee letter"

Thanks, but it appears, however, that you didn't quite catch this part: "1 Letter from a second science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Math or Physics" 🙂

I'm wondering if the second science can count for this, regardless of whether how "hard core" you consider it to be relative to other science courses. Thanks. Anyone else have any input?

edit: For what it's worth, she also teaches kinesiology and other topics related to sport science.

The "second science" refers to biochem, chem, math or physics.

What is the prefix of the course? Bchm, chem, phys, and math are all allowable it seems. If the course prefix matches one of those four, then it's fine. Otherwise, I seriously doubt it... Sorry. Just my two cents.

I'm willing to bet that anything through the health department would go under 'bio.' Err on the side of caution and see if you can obtain a letter of rec from a BCH,Chem, M/P prof.

Or, you could call Tufts to be safe and ask.

Thanks bro.

I'd call them- they might be flexible. I got in without a Bio LOR (and thank goodness, bc my Bio prof was a jerk of the highest magnitude.)

hey predent12, would you be able to tell us how that worked out for you? i'm gonna be doing a 2-year MPH, and i won't be taking any courses that are "bio" per se (bc it'll be epidemiology courses mainly). so i'll be applying without a bio LOR and was worried about that...

It be willing to bet the opposite..that class might be offered for nursing students and the like, and probably isn't part of the Biology department.

I also got in without a bio letter. They sent me a email saying it was missing, followed shortly by a interview invitation.

I just called and asked them if I needed to send a letter directly to the school because I submitted four letters on AADSAS- an Orgo/ Gen Chem prof, a Phys prof, a former boss and a dentist. They said I'd be fine with that.

I think if you do a committee letter you're exempt entirely.

Fair enough. The course wouldn't follow into any of the latter categories though, so the OP would be back at square 1, still needing one of those 'hard' science letters.
