Today I got acceptance from NYU...thay told to submit $5000 before 6 march...I am waiting for BU...My interview was on 5th Feb in BU...I am confused...I know NYU is very good school...but, I bother only abt fees...In this recession first to get loan and repay loan of $2,50,000 is very difficult...guys, any suggestions...

hiii UTHSC, u r one lucky chap, congrats for the acceptance....i think u should watch for couple of days for any updates from BU, otherwise contact mr. kahan either personally or on phone and explain ur position to him and ask him to tell u clearly wat they have decided bout u...if u get positive response from him then all da best, otherwise u have no option but to pay 5000$ to secure ur seat in NYUCD....hope this vl help, once again congrats buddy👍

you can wait till the last minute...but if you thinking of giving up NYU before hearing anything at all from BU, think really hard. This is a really big risk.

First of all congrats for the acceptance . Hopefully you will get into BU also. If you get BU, it would be really good. If the acceptance call from BU is getting delayed, I suggest you should wait till last and deposit 5000 $. Then, there will be two possibilities:

1) you would be accepted to BU after you pay 5000 bucks for NYU

In this case you would be loosing extra 5000 bucks but much better than taking risk and regretting later for NYU. Also, you would still be lucky that you saved 1 year extra money of NYU.

2) Worst scenario- god forbid you do not get BU
Still your 5000 $ will be utilised for your tution at NYU.

In either case you will be in a win-win situation.
I understand 5000 $ is a big amount and so hope you get BU before that

Thank you guys for yr suggestions...I will wait until last moment and I am sure God will help me in between...I also talked with few Dentists who are working here...They suggested me to pay confirmation fee to secure a seat, because according to them, to get into any Dental school is difficult in this competitive period...

yea, wait till march 1st to hear from BU, if u don't just go ahead and pay to NYU, secure ur seat. If u prefere BU to NYU and u r given a chance later on u can always switch...I think there is lot of hope to get in BU yet!

I am thinking really hard now...extra 85000$ would be very much to me...
Because after few yrs of practicing here, I REALLY want to go back to India...
Even in worst scenario, if I don't get into BU this yr and reject NYU, then is it worth to be sit at home(not actually, I will be complete MPH next yr) and save $85000 for extra yr of NYU...

It maybe out of topic but i always wondered how much money does a general dentist make in India,there are extreme examples everywhere but i wanna know the average.

The average salary of a dentist varies according to the region. ... and state .100K-120K is the average. Some of my frns draw as high as 150K in CA.
.. You will be able to pay back your students loan in not more thn 4yrs.. if u r not comitted to other expenses... (read family...). If i were you who is rethinking of going back to INDIA fr gud. I would still persue DMD ..... work fr 8 yrs or so save a bit of dough n thn head back.I would do so fr these reasons....

1: for the love of it.
2.the enriching experience of studying DENTISTRY in near ideal conditions.
3. Last but not the least-Mulla.... As US is by far the Final destination whn if comes to appriceating DENTISTRY as a serious profession.




hope this helps to reconsider your decision....

FYI.Dentistry is among top five highly payed professions in US

I thought that NYU started at the end of July or so?😕

Still...
You *may* get some refund... maybe should check the registrar's office website.

This is just off the top of my head-

1. You will probably loose some tuition money
2. banks have to be notified
3. you have to do some withdrawal paper work
4. Reapply for loans maybe? Definitely adjust the loan amounts.
5. If you are on F1 visa, then more paper work.

NYU has asked its students to deposit full tuition fee of 1st yr by May 1st!!!! that means they have to get their loan approved b4 that so that the bank can confirm NYU the same b4 May 1st.....

BU & NYU both have approx 100 k ( including living expenses ) expenses.
But NYU is more expensive as it is a 3 yr program for FTDs.
