Hello, I just got into osteopathic medical school, can't believe it, I cried.

I just ordered USMLE Kaplan lecture notes on amazon. I want to get into neurosurgery, but I know that a lot of programs are against DO people. I mean, in all fairness I was rejected from all MD medical schools.

So I need to compensate by USMLE. I am going to start studying as soon as college is over. Anyone going to do the same?

Also, the books will help for medical school too, right? Like, it will be easier to get good grades?

What? You're not even going to pretend to be happy you got in. At least take a breather, jeez.

Of course I am happy but I am full of energy. I have been through a lot but I am full of energy now. I have been homeless. I have failed many classes.

I am full of energy now like I have never felt before. I am driven to become a neurosurgeon, and a world-class, research one at that. I'm gonna start early.

I ordered them on Amazon Prime and I'm gonna start early.

No one else feels this way? No one else full of energy?

We are excited, but we've all had a long and tough road getting to school. Once it starts, there will always be work to do. Its nice to take a step back, enjoy life for a bit, and be satisfied with what you have accomplished so far instead of just jumping on to the next thing. You might have energy now but it's a sure fired way to burn yourself out in the long run. Enjoy life!

Yes you should start USLME prep. Check out UWORLD and PATHOMA. I would recommend first going through guyton and moore's for anatomy and physiology basis. Have you bought any resources yet?

Yeah you could do 4 days of reading then realize it's an exercise in futility and put it down until second year, sure.

Do things now that you can't do once you matriculate...have fun, breathe, have a life 😉 kidding of course. But seriously, you have the next 7 years (or more) to look forward to..and you only have a couple of months before this journey begins. Relax.

With neurosurgery dreams, the OP is looking more at ~ 11-12 yrs

Lol my mom bought me the USMLE step 1 guide the other day thinking step 1 was just the first test of med school...Im not touching that thing for at least a year.

Also I'd imagine a current step one guide would be pretty out of date 2 years from now?

As a piece of friendly advice. Scribd is one hell of a resource. I would advise returning it if you don't mind reading digital.

Don't study for boards until second year. Focus on classes first year.

And for the love of everything holy, don't study for boards before you're even in med school. If "exercise in futility" ever needed a definition, that would be it.

Reviewing a bit of anatomy before you start isn't the worst idea, but committing to hardcore pre-studying won't do you any good, and will likely lead to burnout.

You went from panicking about whether to retake a 515 from a Jan 2016 MCAT:

To getting into DO school in a months time and preparing for the boards?

I started studying for step 10 when I was in high school, gawd where have you been!
