I am a non-traditional applicant. I have been invited for an interview at Midwestern (AZ), but I am missing a microbiology course. I have not listed it as one of my in-progress courses when I submitted my application. I am sure that I wont be able to take this course, because I am already taking biochem this fall and winter (I am working full time). I was wondering if anyone has personally got admission without completing all coursework required by a school. Also, I am eager to hear your horror stories about revoked admissions by registrar's office (for the missing courses) two days before classes start!

Sorry but I actually talked to someone on SDN about this.

He got accepted but missed 1 course and they told him "NO, we cant accept you". I guess if you get accepted somewhere, quit your job (easier said than done right?) and finish whatever the school asks for.

I wont be suprised if this is the case. But, I called UoP when I was applying, and asked them about missing two biology labs (well they are biochem courses without labs, but offered by biology department). They asked about my DAT Bio section. After I said it is 20, they said I will be fine. I have other interviews, and there is a good chance I get multiple acceptances. The worst thing would be declining the other offers and get rejected by the one school you choose.

I think you can get interviewed without having your prereqs done. They want prereqs done by the time you matriculate. Either way, I'd try and squeeze in micro just to get the prereq if you need it

You'll have to take it if you are accepted into that school.

I am that one person for the same school. i was formally accepted to MWU-AZ without having anatomy. The problem is I was accepted July 5 and didnt have any course across the nation starting late enough that would have finished in time for me to attend.

so yes you must take that course. if you get accepted Dec 1 take it in the spring if you get accepted later take it in the summer. one course with guarantee acceptance to dental school is worth quitting your job for

Exactly what I wanted to know. It is common sense that candidates need to have all prerequisites before getting accepted, but some school make exceptions (e.g. UoP as I mentioned). I am looking at all my options (I have 5 other pre Dec interviews). I should be able to drop biochem and get microbiology, if I decide to go to MWU.

Just take it next semester. What's important is that you have the background in that course before dental school starts.

Also, some of these course requirements are not set in stone. For example, I only have 3 credits in English and one of my schools said I was missing the required 6 credits for admission. Instead of proposing that I would take it next semester or next summer like most of you farts would say, I convinced them that since the English requirement was to satisfy verbal and writing skills, my ability in English was above par and used my RC score along with a well written professional email to support my claim. Two hours later, I receive an email from the school stating that my application was forwarded to the Adcom for review haha.

Think outside the box.
