I got a C my very first semester in college in Inorganic chem. It was kinda a slap in the face since I had just graduated from HS at the top of my class, I guess I was still in the mindset that school was supposed to be easy. After that I didn't take chemistry for another year and a half. I ended up getting mostly B's, but I did get a C in thermodynamics and in an upper level chem class. It hurt my science gpa, but with bio and physics, I was able to keep it above a 3.0.

Seriously, people like you make me happy. People with high stats getting in... that comes as no surprise.

But when people who have had difficulty in their academic careers get in, it is a lot more inspirational and gives a greater glimmer of hope.

agreed 100% thanks for the replies..👍👍

dont worry about your freshmen year people mess up and dental schools know that. They love to see how students have improved over the years.

check my predents profile i was not an exceptional applicant

Well I personally know a couple of friends who got in with an abundance of Cs and Bs on their transcript. Two things can well make up for such grades: the DAT score in those particular sections to show that the poor performance was due to the professor's hardship or the institute and secondly retaking the same course or better taking additional courses in the same field and doing well in them. For example if you messed up a bio class take a micro class and ace it.

freshman year:
F=calc 1
C=physux
C=physux 2
C= Chem 2 Honors
C= Chem 2 Honors Lab

...

Class of 2010 THEEE University of Michigan
GO BLUE!

All i know is that you should do well in O Chem.

I met a previous Harvard Adcom member and he said that O Chem is what matters the most.

its possible...i got 2 C's in chem lectures...1 C in lab..one C in a bio course...still got plenty of interviews and 2 acceptances. Show improvement and dedication, dont blow off the DATs, good LORs and nail your interviews and it'll be fine... if you have to apply your senior year instead of Jr year (as I did)..then so be it.

Thank you doctors i appreciate the replies....👍👍

Get the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools and look at each school's stats. If you have 4 C's, but still have a 3.6 GPA, then you'll be fine. If you have 4 C's but have a 2.8 GPA, then you'll have problems. Also 4 C's in one subject is a red-flag.

Okay, here we go. C's in:
History 1, Intro to Unix, Intro to Economics, English 1, College Algebra, Chem 1, Intro to Logic, Physics II, OCHEM III, Bio III.

Those were all either freshman year or during my high school/community college exchange program. Man, those were some pretty awful years...

Got accepted to 4 schools december 1st, including UoP with a scholarship and Columbia. 🙂
