Since I didn?t have to send an essay before the secondary application,
I sent out an application to ICO first.
Then, I am so happy to hear that I have accepted to the school.

Thus?now I am thinking about applying to just one more school in Boston.
Do you guys have any ideas about two schools? Pros and cons??

When I visited ICO, I really like the program and everyone seems so nice.
Since I have always wanted to live at Boston, I just want to know some insight about New England. I want to visit the school first before make my mind, but I will probably wait till an interview due to expense.
By the way, I heard that the clinical setting in New England is not as strong as ICO.
Is this correct?
Because clinical experience is my biggest concern for choosing a school,
I really want to know about this.

So?if you can give me some ideas, I will be really appreciated.

I know I'm bias, but I believe the clinic at ICO will give you the greatest experience of any of the school. We are located in the heart of poor Chicago. You will see more pathology here than any other school (besides PR). I really believe you would get the best clinical exposure here.

Since none of us have gone through more than one school's program, we can't really state facts. So, I guess this is all just bias statements.

A lot of people here looked at Boston and they all said they loved the way the school looked and thought it was a good program. But they all said it came done to the same thing you looking at, "Which has the better clinical exposure?" I guess you have to take a chance.

Don't forget PCO - Its located in inner city Philadelphia! Its doesn't get any worse than here as far as pathology. I can't wait to leave here in December so I can see some normal patients. 🙄

I thought PCO was in Montgomery County or something, north of Philly?

at our clinic we service people with almost NO access to health care. Patients who don't qualify for medicaid yet have no insurance.... diabetics with FLORID diabetic retinopahy, pseudotumor, hypertensive retinopahy, etc. In some cases we're the only doctors they're seeing. UHCO works on a sliding scale payment plan... the less you make the less you pay. Helping people who normally would not be receiving care...

So, if your school is in the inner city where this occurs... you see more pathology. If your school is in the suburbs... you'll see more 20-30 something "normal eye" exams.

I'm not saying I never see normal... cuz I do. I just have more chance of seeing pathology working in the inner city.

We also get to rotate through free clinics when we're doing our in-house rotation... where pathology is prevalent. I also got to brush up on A LOT of Spanish. 😀

Many patients will give your wrong addresses cuz they're illegal... phone numbers that don't work... which makes it VERY hard to manage the patients. It's hard to get someone in for help when you can't get hold of them.

Ok...so if you guys had to name the top three schools with the best clinical experience/most clinical experience, which three would make the cut?

I'm applying to ICO. Boston, and PCO because I thought they're clinical experience sounds the best....

Of course I haven't forgot about PCO, Christie...^^*
Since I have heard that both of ICO and PCO can provide great clinical experience,

I'm going to PCO next year because I'm biased and live super close to it but compared to there and Boston I thought that PCO had a better clinical program. Boston was really nice too but it seemed too surreal there with its entire college atmosphere..I'd want to be spending more of my time outside and in the city than at school..whereas PCO isnt in the center of Philly so it's easier I think to get work done and hen travel into the city if u want to go out....my 2 cents. 🙂 bottom line..go to pco! 🙂 I can't wait til next fall! 😀

Congratulations on being accepted. Im curious, at what point in the process did you get accepted? Did you get accepted after the prelim app, or the secondary as well as interview, etc. Also, what are your gpa's and Oat scores? That would be helpful to know.

I got accepted after my interview. 360 science OAT, 350 academic OAT, 3.0 GPA...I think my OD still didn't send them a letter yet...

Yeah GPA was a bit low, so had to bring scores up...took them Feb....
