I took a trigonometry course (never had Calculus I in HS) and received a B in it. How bad will this look on my transcript when applying to medical school? The only reason I got the B was because I took way too many classes this semester; however, I understood most of the material.

This thread will result in a lot of banishment to the Caribbean replies. Therefore, I will be the first of many.

Your grades are forever tarnished. Go directly to the Caribbean, do not pass Go, Do not collect $200.

There is just no excuse for this question...

You can't be a doctor anymore, just go find a different career with your filthy grades.

It's one B. If you're freaking out about that, I wouldn't recommend emergency medicine.

Lmao :🤣:

Love it. But I don't even think the Carribean will accept a B, not even with URM status. OP you should def choose another career. Seeing as the average pre-med gpa for a student that matriculates is a 4.7 on a 4 point scale U R screwed 😛

Try to get all A's, of course, but the average GPA for accepted students is around 3.6. You can get a few B's. It doesn't matter. Relax.

B in Trig is like a guaranteed D in Calc I, probably a guaranteed F in Calc II.

Not necessarily at my school calc for business majors/life science majors doesn't involve trig whatsoever.

Wow you're trying to be a doctor and you don't have the brain capacity to ace trig?

I recommend a post-bacc program and an e-mail to all of the medical schools you're interested in with an apology in advance.

your chances are over bro, are considering EMT?

Considering that the average GPA for an accepted med school applicant is no where near a 4.0, I would say you're fine.

If you're spazzing out now, I don't want to see how you handle med school.

Is anyone else like really, really, REALLY sick of these kind of threads?

A college degree.

Common sense not included.

Yeeeesssssss. That's why there is a "The answers to your stupid questions" thread, but people still don't use it.

I meant that in the sarcastic nature of the replies preceding mine. Honestly, I struggled far more in the trig-heavy portion of my Pre-Calc class than I ever did in my Calc I class. My school also only offers one version of Calc and I still found the concepts far more simple than those damn double angle formulas.

LOL My trig teacher told us she wouldn't teach us those because they never come up again, but we did use 3 of those identities in Calc2 for engineers but that was more for simplification then anything else.

After some boredom-induced lurking in the pre-allo forum, I am convinced that I would lose my insanity if I were forced to wade through these cookie-cutter bullcrap pre-med panic threads. Hats off to you all for not committing seppuku after the millionth one of these shows up at the top of the page.

Yeah you don't wanna lose your insanity. That would make life boring.

Well...the only B I got was in elementary spanish 1 (and I wish I could say it was due to a heavy course load...but the real reason was b/c I hated the class and didn't care). Did it come up during interviews? Yes but only in a joking manner ("An A in physics but you can't get an A in elementary spanish?...<insert laughter>"). Honestly they could care less. A few B's every now and then do no harm. No one is perfect (despite what some people on here lead you to believe).

What is your cGPA and sGPA? Those are what med school will be looking at. Good luck! 👍

3.8 and 4.0

3.8 and 4.0

What? I thought you said you made a B in trig... which should count as math. Did they banish trig to the humanities department at your school or something?

Harvard is impossible now. Try Johns Hopkins!

All jokes aside, you're fine. I felt the same way about my first B and the several consecutive B's.

My B's make me a well-rounded person. Getting nothing but A's gets boring after a while, you know?

it doesnt look good for you

All my interviewers last cycle always questioned me about my one B my sophomore year, straight rejections for all 15 schools because of it. Just quit now and save yourself some $$$$$

Xe 54: You're done, dude. You proabably should have picked a better element for your username.

2nd Semester Precal (High School): D
