Hi everyone, I'm an american IMG and I just got my step 1 score yesterday (226/82) which is kinda frustrating🙁 I was wondering what are the chances of me getting into a good internal medicine residency program and what score should I aim for in step 2 ck to achieve my goal.

Your input is greatly appreciated 🙂

First question for you: if you are American why did you leave the country for medical school?

Ok, 226 is not a bad score for IM. If you go to a good school you should be fine.

Oh, and just try to raise your Step II score at all and you'll probably get a spot somewhere.

Anyone else....

How high should I aim for in step 2 ck if I'm to get in a well reputed residency program and not one in a middle of a corn field.😀

(realize 237 is average for step II)

well...actually I didn't know that, thanks for mentioning it.
but I know someone with a similar S1 score as the OP's who got 246 in S2 and got into an even more competitive specialty in a prestigious academic hospital.
so what I'm trying to say is that this forum in particular gives a rather distorted image of what your scores should be like in order for you to be competitive. in the real world, most people score around the average and still end up in good programs 🙂

Thank you all for your replies. I wish you the best in your step preparation, you've been really helpful🙂
