Seriously making me not want to become a dentist anymore.

What part of the OMS collecting $1200 for 30 minutes of his time did you not like?😀

LOL...I'm pretty sure it might even be more than that.

What's wrong with an oral surgeon collecting 0 after hours in the emergency room? What part of the OMS collecting $1200 for 30 minutes of his time did you not like?😀
The best lunch break ever, went to the dentist across the street, got to watch the entire procedure in a mirror, went back to work feeling good, but only in two and half hours I finally realized that I need some serious pain killers! The most amazing oral surgeon in beverly hills😀!

I don't get this. Why wouldn't the oral surgeon get paid for this work?
I'm sure they want to get paid.I don't get this. Why wouldn't the oral surgeon get paid for this work?
But remember, health care is a right, not a privilege and it's handed to everyone after their drunk stupidity- regardless if they can pay or not!

I like how you state one side of a highly debated issue and pretend like you're talking about straight up facts.
I was swollen for three weeks after I got my wisdom teeth taken out! Glad I don't have to go through that again.
I'm mentioning the reality of the current health care system, fyi.I like how you state one side of a highly debated issue and pretend like you're talking about straight up facts.
no, you're talking about an arugment for a form of universal healthcare... which, in fact, is not what we currently have.
You want into the ER, are they going to reject you because you cannot pay/ no insurance?no, you're talking about an arugment for a form of universal healthcare... which, in fact, is not what we currently have.
NO!

you said "right to healthcare"... if you go into the ER, they have the obligation to stabalize you. Nothing more.

The oral surgeon still gets paid because they will probably be salaried employees of the hospital. Also, you can choose to go into private practice as an oral surgeon and only take on cases that you want to take on (ex. non-trauma, elective procedures, etc.) which can circumvent the insurance issue. Lastly, I have no problems treating some patients for free. I mean, oral surgeons make about more than $300,000 a year on average, which is in the top 97%-98% of people in the United States. I'm sure that treating certain patients for free won't prevent me from putting food on the table and keeping the lights on. We, as future healthcare practicioners, have a unique and important duty in society to promote health and heal the sick. Healthcare is a right just as much as civil rights, personal property, etc. and it's a great travesty how insurance companies currently profit at the expense of people's health. Sometimes, it's just not about the muthaf*cking money.
I remember i got my wisdom tooth removed (# 32 lower right i believe) and it was the longest 30-45 mins of my life.. my wisdom were under neath my gums (horizontal impactation or something) and it turned out to be a surgical xtraction....
one mistake i made though was to take the vics right before i drove home... glad i made it home safetly but it was scary (i was realllyllyly sleepy)
mr awesome

Dude i totally agree...
thats why i want to go in dental cuz i have freedom to not charge / or give discounts (in private practice) ... I feel other pre-med fields (such as workign in hospitals or something) are much more restircted in that regard (giving free work / discounted work)
just m y 2 cents

You don't know what you are talking about. The surgeon will get paid no matter if the patient has the funds or not. Granted, the compensation doesn't compare to a set of full bony impactions with 45 min of GA, but hey.
i had 3 removed and they were all under my bone. it was a weird being awake (i had the dentist i worked for do it, we just used bupivacaine), feeling someone drill into your head. needless to say, recovery was a bitch. it was either massive pain, or nausea/dizziness from the oxy! hope you feel better soon 🙂
