Got rejected from wake forest

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
...just a guess, but the 7 killed your chances there, otherwise you were certainly just under their medians...hopefully you have plenty of other irons in the fire...

Me too.

33 (13P,10B,10V)
3.36

GPA is gonna kill me.

Seems that Wake Forest has been "gunning" with lots of post primary/2ndry rejections, so you are not alone this year...

Got mine today too. 3.6 GPA 10VR, 9BS, 9PS Q MCAT.

For curiosity sake are you guys OOS or instate, because i know Wake likes in state applicants

hey guys...sorry to hear about those rejections. Did they come via email, snail, or online status check?

I had called a few days ago to check on my status, and was told that while i was not selected for an interview at this point, my file would be reviewed again later in the year (post-secondary)...

I'm just wondering now if this is one step ahead of rejection...not sure how their process works.

33 (12P, 11V, 10B) MCAT, 3.55 gpa, OOS, pre secondary.

/gpa? oos?

i'm out of state..it came via email.

overall 30 in mcat (7 in VR), 3.57 gpa
this hurts..but nothing i can do.

Don't sweat it. Wake rejected me last year pre-secondary. Now I'm in week four at another M.D. school.

Wake can be strange. I know a Wake undergrad graduate and Wake medical school graduate who wasn't even invited to interview for a residency.

ok note to self *Don't apply to Wake Forest*

In-state, also got dinged today. Whatever.

If you were referring to me, pre-secondary. I have one questionable MCAT subscore and my BCPM is <3.5, so it could have been either of those, or it could have been anything, really (that line about how they reviewed your whole application because numbers don't always tell the whole story just seems cruel because after they told you they looked past the numbers they decided to reject you anyway. just let us believe you're screening on numbers, wake, it'll make us feel better).

there's really no pattern to their rejections. we've seen high GPAs, low GPAs, high MCATs, low MCATs..

I have a 3.3 and a 31 and received their secondary. of course I have a masters degree and am a reapplicant to their school, which I think is the reason I haven't been rejected. I haven't gotten an interview either, so maybe they just wanted my money.

I have a friend who was rejected from wake pre-secondary and has his hopkins interview tomorrow...
personally, I was rejected from Wake pre-secondary as well and will be interviewing at Vandy next week.
clearly they're gunning for something (my gpa was likely holding me back), but there are lots more schools 🙂
[I was really upset for a few weeks following wake pre-vandy response. things get better.]

Rejected pre-secondary by Wake today.

8PS 10VR 10BS
3.9 GPA
OOS

Came via email...

Whatever, I seriously wouldn't have gone there anyways...

Have no idea why I even applied...

I was pretty depressed the other day when I checked my status and got the infamous "you'll be receiving info via email blah blah" message. Later that afternoon, however, I found UNC's secondary in my inbox 😍 so I felt muuuuuuuuch better. There's always hope. Always.

I was rejected pre-secondary by Wake. Invited to interview by UVM a couple of days later. I'm OOS. There is no point to worrying about Wake's methods.

i think they reject anyone who has a gpa below 3.5 and any mcat section below an 8.

I got Wake's secondary. (No interview -- yet! I'm holding on to hope.) My GPA is ugly low. My MCAT wasn't so high as to offset it really either. I have no clue as to their algorithm.

people have posted about getting pre-sec rejected or getting a secondary to them, and there really was no formula..

don't worry about it, it was probably a pseudo-random process

Welcome to the club. There was a huge thread about this a while back too.

As for me,
33 MCAT
3.7 GPA
California Resident.

I was rejected pre-secondary very early in the cycle.

it really is pseudo random....

3.65 GPA, 32 MCAT, CANADIAN (i.e. international)
and I received the secondary...
just waiting for that rejection 🙂

are all these rejections pre-secondary? I'm in state NC and received a secondary from wake (mcat - 30, gpa - 3.6). my status on their webpage says complete, but i haven't received their "you're complete!" email as they promised...?? hmmm... anyone else with similar expereinces, or will i be joining this thread soon? 😕

yea i think all these rejections were pre-sec. As for your complete status, have you submitted your secondary already? A 'complete' status would indicate that your file already has the fee, secondary app, rec letters and any others required.

although i didnt get a rejection, i called and was told that i was put into the 3rd interview pool, which means rejection. they only interview 600 people and each interview pool has 1000 people. what am i? number 2050 on the waitlist?

, sorry, that's rough. We can all get acceptances and then come in here and brag about them and how much Wake is missing out. 😉 :luck:

Yeah, it's Wake Forest's loss.

ok note to self *Don't apply to Wake Forest*

That's exactly why you SHOULD apply to Wake Forest. I have a lot of respect for schools who super screen for secondaries. If you get a secondary and have to spend another $60-100 dollars than you should fee like you have at least progressed in the application process and that your odds have increased. Just my two cents.

Wake looks at each applicant holistically when they screen, not just objective stats.

i have 7 on verbal but i got their secondary pretty dang fast after the verification(a week later). So i don't think it's all about the number

32R (11VR 10PS 11BS)
3.45 GPA, 3.55 Science
Rejected pre-secondary (OOS).

I really was very interested in Wake. They have a great program for complementary and integrative medicine, which I was very, very interested in. However, I couldn't exactly spell that out on my primary.

Yikes. I'm officially afraid to open my e-mail now. :scared:

10,10,10,R

GPA is a mystery to me. I am non-trad, didn't do so hot the first time, Cum undergrad 3.44, post-bac 3.96. Don't know which they'll give more weight to, or if the first one kills me.

omg. me too! pre-secondary, out o' state, 12 12 12, 3.36! yay!
i could have loved them... if they would only give me a chance...

Almost exactly my situation. Maybe your ECs and personal statement are better than mine? My "post-bac" GPA was 4.0, but really I only took 4 classes (all pre-reqs), so you probably have more positive recent academic history to lean on.

I was feeling good about Wake before I read this thread in the morning. I have a 30 O (10P 9V 11B), and I am a FL resident. My GPA is 3.7 and my BPCM is 3.65. I had filled out their secondary app in Sept. and recieved notification for a completed app in Late Sept.

Its been 2 weeks since so I called them and the reply was that a my application has been reviewed. I then ask if a decision has been made, and I was told yes. I got the feeling it was bad news and the person on the other line did not want to be the harbinger of it, so I let it rest and just said "thank you for your help". Actually, a part of me is relieved to know that they don't play around with the applicants and make the process a little more transparent. But I hope I am wrong and get an invitation, because I really like the school, program, and the neighborhood (if I ever get endowed with many acceptances that I can choices by neighborhoods ). Anyways, good luck to everbody still waiting to hear from them. :luck:

I just got through primary processing and was told my secondary will be sent soon.

Does anyone know the # of secondary applicants that get an interview? The MSAR says 379/5099 OOS (I'm OOS), but since they screen 2ndaries I assume there's no way they send out 5100 secondaries to OOS'ers. (MSAR only says "applied")

they do play around with the applicants. my secondary was complete in July. called once about a month ago and they said i was under review. now nothing.

Glad I took the time to look at this forum. Got my rejection pre-secondary today, too. This was really a shock, and if they are looking at them "holistically," this is scary! I hope that doesn't mean that when all the other schools I've applied to take the time to look over my app, they won't like me, either!

Notes:
1. I am OOS, but mentioned multiple times in my primary about how I grew up in NC, my dad and brother live in NC, and I went to NCSA for high school (which is in the same town Wake is in..thought that might help my case a bit)
2. I called their admissions office last week to check on the status of my app and they said, "you look good!" yeaaa.

thoughts?

ok note to self *Don't apply to Wake Forest*

Don't stay down on them. They are a little odd in their acceptances/rejections, but when I interviewed there this year (rejected the past 2 years), they said that they like older applicants who have been out of UG for at least a year or so. This is not to say that they won't accept you right out of UG, but they definitely look on older applicants in a better light. Good luck to everyone. Don't get down on yourselves. This is my third year applying and I have finally gotten in to some schools. If you really wanna do it, you can.

Don't take what Wake Forest does personally. I'm in my second week of exams at a different med school after not even getting a secondary from WFU last year. My GPA and MCAT were both above Wake's averages, and I had interviewed and been waitlisted at WFU two years prior.

In short, I don't think anybody's been able to figure out how they screen presecondary...so give it a shot, you might be what they're looking for.

I really don't doubt the "unexpected" rejections for you out of state applicants, Wake Forest SOM loves to accept in-state residents. From what I hear, you basically have to walk across water to be accepted if you are OOS. Hopefully I get accepted in 3 years.

29P - 3.69GPA - From Winston-Salem - Rejected Pre-Secondary

i think they reject anyone who has a gpa below 3.5 and any mcat section below an 8.

I got dinged pre-secondary with nothing below a 9 and a 3.85 GPA (3.95 BCPM). Also have a MS (1st in class, 4.0 GPA).

As others have said, there is no rhyme or reason to a lot of this process. That's why you need to apply broadly.

FYI - if you call the office they are pretty open about giving you an update. They told me I'm not rejected, but that my file has been reviewed, so pre-interview hold I guess. I'm not surprised as I'm OOS and have a crappy gpa, but it seems there is still hope.

So last week my status page said something along the lines of "your application has been sent to the admissions committee for review." But now when I try to log in I get an error message that says my application number was not found. Does this basically mean that I was rejected?
