I checked my status and I have an interview at UofM! Does this mean that I don't have to fill out the secondary 🙄 That would be nice 🙂

I'm not sure if it means that you don't have to fill out the secondary. But there was something posted about this either a few posts back on this thread or on another thread by another poster.

From my understanding, people with super high scores get automatic interviews. I forget what they said the cutoffs were for people with automatic interviews, but I'd email or call them and find out if automatic interviewees have to still fill it out. I'm assuming you'd have to at least give the fee, so that they can afford to fund interview related things.

Ok, so after the debacle of Columbia's secondary (don't even get me started on how inconsiderate that one is and how lame the essay is. . .) I get UCSD's secondary and I get to write TWO PAGES (in a font "large enough to read") to write an "autobiographical sketch", not forgetting to include every phase of the last 20 years AND finding some way to bring in my motivations for medicine. Ok, motivations for medicine. . . DIDN'T MY G-DDAMN PS DO THAT?! And 2 pages to cover 20 years?! 10 years to a page?! (Yes, the first half of my life really WAS as interesting as the 2nd, thanks to a mobile and adventurous childhood) That's just not enough SPACE! Not to mention the fact that it's a cop-out of an essay. . . did they not want to think up a thought-provoking or worthwhile prompt? Yeesh.

:::grump::::

Ok, now that that's out of my system. . .

::::end b!tching session here::::

If you can complete that essay, I applaud you. That would be reason enough for me to say see ya later to UCSD. Btw, because I need a break from supplemental bullshlt, I thought I'd mention that your profile is a quote from Pink Floyd. I want my brownie points now, please.

They're redeemable for special prizes!

I got an automatic interview as well at UMich but I filled out the secondary anyway... I figured it gives them more info about me so it can't hurt!

O.K., so my thinking cap was not properly adjusted over the last few days seeing that I kept emptying my junk mail w/o checking first. Here are some schools that I am not sure if they have sent out secondaries. If anyone knows if they have it would be very helpful. I may have to call some and apologize for my stupidity.

New York Medical College
Penn State
Virginia Commonwealth
St. Louis University
Creighton
Loma Linda

Thanks 😳

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (what a long name  )

I got mine today 7/21/2005, but they said that they issued it on 7/19/2005

My AMCAS was submited on 6/13 and verified on 6/16

Anyone who has the UVM secondary, but hasn't completed it yet: does the help text for the criminal conviction question say that it applies also to traffic violations? I assumed that it didn't, since it didn't explicitly to include tickets, but then remembered they had asked about tickets last year. (Sadly, I remembered this after submitting and can no longer access the original question! Oops.)

You can check VCU by going to their status page. That's where they do all of their correspondence with you (and they also send a computer generated email telling you to check that website if there's a change).

I think stanford's came out mid-august last year, definetly the last one that I got.

so UCSD secondary is out, how about the other UCs?

you can check your status on UCSF and UCSD's website. UCSF's site says they are "reviewing" my file, and i can expect to hear something within three weeks.

You can check through this thread to see if anybody has mentioned them. Penn State has definitely not come out. I don't remember seeing the others, but I haven't particularly been looking for them.

Specifically, it's from Breathe, off The Dark Side of the Moon. Classic.

Got Florida State. It's a doozy.
You have to submit a handwritten "self-critical analysis"

Just got Rush via email.

I submitted by supplementary application last week, but I had saved the link to the guideline website.

This is from the supp. guideline page:

"Parking violations are the only convictions you are not required to document. For speeding tickets: you do not need to list them if they occurred 5 years ago or longer. All other infractions must be listed on the supplemental application, regardless of the amount of time that has passed. As noted on the Supplemental Application, failure to provide accurate information may provide grounds for disciplinary action, including dismissal or revocation of an offer of admission. Admitted students who enroll at UVM COM should plan to undergo a criminal record check before the beginning of classes in August 2006."

Are you sure it has to be handwritten?
Received: Dartmouth, FSU and UMICH today 🙂 , UVM, VCU, UF, USF, Miami, and UPENN.

Has anyone received SLU, Loyola, MSU, Wayne State or Brown?

Thanx!! 👍

Thanks so much for that. I should have done the same; hopefully I can be more careful in the future. Now I'll just send them a little email explaining that I didn't bother to read their secondary before submitting it--that should make me look good!

Very sure. This is the prompt...

Using only the space below, write, in your own handwriting, a critical analysis of your personal
and scholastic qualifications for the study of medicine and the realization of your professional
ambitions.

No problem. I didn't even notice what the guidelines said until you asked. I'm glad I don't have any speeding tickets or I would be in the same boat as you. I think as long as you let them know, you will be ok. The admissions office is very nice. 🙂

re. ucsf - - yeah, mine probably says 3-10 weeks as well, just being hopeful i guess.

Man JHU got my hopes up today. I got an envelope in the mail from them today. The cover said "Come Talk to us About Johns Hopkins" or something like that... and since my file has been complete for a week, could this be my first interview invite? no dice. Brochure and a letter with the sec url on it.

So don't be deceived like I was...

I just got Tufts' secondary via snail-mail today (I'm in CA). They just gave me a link and an authorization number for the secondary. There is no real essay question except if you have a special reason for wanting to go to Tufts or study in Boston. They also want a printout of your AMCAS.

oh, man, Rush wants an LOR from my premed advisor? Frickin' A. I've already got to get one from a non-academic, non-faculty member for UWisc, and now I've got to get this. I'm going to have a total of 7-8 letters. 😡

Wow I'm surprised you already got Tufts being from CA, and I haven't heard any east coast SDNers mention getting Tufts yet.

Anyway, this is for anyone who can answer this question for me. Tufts ask if we have a special reason for wanting to go to Tufts or study in Boston. The reason I applied to boston schools b/c I'm originally from around the area (I live in CA now) but I still have a lot of good hgih school friends there. Does that pose as a "special reason" or should I just leave that question blank?

Does anyone know if UVM, VCU or Rush screens?

rtmcad, I haven't received secondaries from any of the five schools you listed either.

Does anyone who is working on the Northwestern secondary know if it allows you to go over 400 words since it says to "limit your response to about 400 words" ?

Does anyone know where I can find the secondary for UNT? I have the pw and id, but not the exact site. Could any one help?

just got UCSF's offical application receival notice. I can only hope there will be a second email in 3-10 weeks for a secondary.

I got tufts today as well . . i also listed family and friends as a reason for why i applied. i figured that the adcoms realize that in addition to the academic environment, our personal environment is also a factor of where we spend the next four years.

kindof annoyed about having to send in my amcas - i can't "delete" my destination schools as they suggested without it being v. obvious. oh well.

Don't they even say you can leave out the last page?

I left out the last page of the AMCAS printout. But on my 2nd to last page (which had my personal statement), Albert Einstein was listed at the very bottom, so I just cut that tiny half inch part off.

Yeah, their wording with the "about 400 words" makes it confusing for us applicants. But the application actually has an automatic word count, so if you go over 400, it won't let you submit

But it has let me paste more than 400 words in the text box.....is it just when you submit that you receive an error?

yo does northwestern really screen? i got their secondary and don't know whether to be super excited or just...overwhelmed with more secondaries. plus i have a hard time understanding how i slipped through the cracks...

Hello,
I just received GW secondary. They asked us to list the courses that will constitute the required premed units and the grades we received in them. I did poorly on those early premed classes but performed well in the upper division bio and physics class. Can I put down my upper division class to satisfy the premed requirements or do I have to list those core classes?
Thanks.

Are people just copy and pasting for the Northwestern essays, or typing them directly into the application?
