From MSAR, to get in you have to have a tie to hawaii in 3 of the following categories:
Legal Residence
birthplace
high school
college
Parent's legal residence

may not want to send that application fee in.

you should probably have picked up a copy of MSAR before sending out AMCAS, it's really helpful! (from AAMC the same jerks that took your money for AMCAS and MCAT). There may be a copy in your premed office at school or you can order one on AAMC and it'll come really quickly and has everything you could ever want to know about med school applications. And sadly, no, unless you meet atleast 3 requirements, you have no chance. Hawaii apparently has a separate screening process for the school. But who wants to go to med school in paradise anyway (I removed Hawaii from my first AMCAS app after reading MSAR)

NYU said they aren't sending it out till August (lady at the admissions office)- give it another week or two...

I wound up submitting my application before I got the brochure through snail mail, which is what you should do too (if you haven't already). When I submitted it, the status update said "brochure sent." So maybe, for some reason, the snail mail has just taken a long time to get to your house. They don't screen, so I can't see any harm in just submitting it.

Getting a secondary is one thing... but if you get an acceptance without any connection to the state... then I'm going to have to feel like an idiot cuz otherwise I would've applied there

I don't recall hearing about anyone getting EVMS. I still haven't heard a word. (I'm out of state).

I got the VCU secondary today. They've changed it. A LOT. They now ask for people who have graduated from VCU; some general information; SAT/ACT scores and background about your high school; which courses satisfy pre-reqs; and then the essays. No handwritten one this time - but where do you see yourself practicing in 10 years, describe yourself (to "get to know you better"), and another one... but it's all online now.

I just submitted my rochester secondary and I paid with a credit card but I completely forgot to make note of how much the fee was. I tried searching the site for the fee info but I couldn't find it anywhere after I submitted, and I'm trying to keep track of how much I'm spending, so can someone please tell me how much the fee was?? thanks

Also, I emailed my secondary photo to U Mich and the person actually replied to my email with a one liner "Thank you!". I found that quite funny, but also very nice of them to do that. But I can't imagine them replying to a few thousand applicants just to write thanks for the photo. Did you guys get a reply also?

I did this today too. And I have no idea. I thought when I reached the point in my life when I was blindly shelling out cash for stuff, cost be damned, it would be far cooler.

I got UC-Irvine yesterday! (the same day it was received...hmm).

my amcas was verified in early june, UCSD sent an email saying they had received my amcas on ~ july 11

can I just vent here that my undergrad advisors, who are supposed to be sending out my LORs, are still telling me they haven't received any!! i have confirmation from all writers that letters were sent out long ago! argh!!! 😡

would it be totally rude to ask them to resend the letter somewhere else like interfolio? i want to send my secondaries but there's no point if I have no letters to go with them!! 😕

The med schools are a little slow on receiving/opening/filing the mails. Last year, one med school cashed my check and secondary which was sent two weeks after the LORs were mailed out and claimed they didn't get the LOR yet. Are you getting the letters from the advisory committee or from the professors? If from the advisory, pay them a little extra for the tracking number thing...that way you know they'll get it.

And also, have the letter senders put your AMCAS ID, Social Security and a drop of your blood on the LOR so, the med schools know that its yours.

I don't have a committee really, but 3 professors and 2 bosses sending letters to my advisors, who are supposed to copy and send them to schools. I gave each writer a letter with my social, waiver of access and a lock of my hair, just to make sure the advisors know it's mine 😛 either the campus mail is really f'd or somebody in that office hates me because they're claiming they haven't received ANY of them, and I know at least 3 of them were sent ages ago...

my main question tho is would it be totally lame at this point to ask my letter writers to resend the letters to a different service like interfolio? I'm pretty fed up with my advisors right now, and they don't do a committee letter so I wouldn't lose much by going with another service, I just don't want to piss off my letter writers with all this 🙁

According to MSAR, NYU does not screen.

I think it was said elsewhere on this board that NYU isn't screening this year because they switched to AMCAS. However, this is from their web site:

Candidates for admission to NYU School of Medicine should file their AMCAS application no later than October 15 preceding the year for which admission is sought. If you meet the selected criteria, you will be contacted by our office via email with instructions on completing our on-line secondary application.
