I think it was said elsewhere on this board that NYU isn't screening this year because they switched to AMCAS. However, this is from their web site:

only a "mitigating factors" essay. i had an extremely bad family-related event that happened to me, but my grades didn't go down...so i didn't write about it 🙁 or 🙂 ?

unfortunately, my grades were aweful one year when nothing happened....grrr

NYU does not screen - this is first hand from the lady at the admissions office. She said this is the first year they are NOT screening... everyone will get a secondary.

Yeah it does seem odd that not many other SDNers are vocal about receiving their UCs secondaries yet, because I really doubt I'm the only one of the few that they'd send it to. Don't worry, I'm sure everyone else will get theirs soon

By the way, the UCD essays aren't as crazy as last year's, but it still seems tedious....3 essays and the max characters for each is 6000!! 😱

one more question on NYU: they are asking for 2 LORs with one from a science prof. would it be bad to send in 3 when they are only asking for 2? I'm worried it might annoy them to have to read more stuff for me than other candidates.

They need to check over apps a first time before they send out secondaries- heck, I didn't get Jefferson's until yesterday and people had that for a good two weeks before me (they don't screen).

I just wonder how happy they were to take my $100

Altho with me, I almost rather have to write essays since it makes me feel like there is some glimmer of hope besides the normal "do you have a relative/cousin/dog that went to Medical School of Random State?" and "Give us money" questions. Because usually, no I have no relation to any of the professors/students/alumni/dog of the school, and shelling out 100 dollars is easier when I feel like I've added or helped my application by adding some supplemental information 🙄

I completely agree. I hate the "Is your daddy a rich alum?"/give us money secondaries.

NYU secondary 7/27

So it looks like a 10 business day turnaround for secondaries from AMCAS processing to secondary email...not too shabby

I have not gotten their secondary either. But I don't think they will reject me without taking my money first.
