I have not gotten their secondary either. But I don't think they will reject me without taking my money first.

well there seems to be a misunderstanding on whether or not NYU screens. I checked the website, and it seems that they do screen because they send out secondaries to "selected applicants." But someone else (and MSAR) say that they do not. So confused. 😕

Just got NYU 🙂

My numbers are above their average so I doubt they would screen me out (I hope not  ). I think they are still sending secondaries out.

Yeah, MSAR says NYU doesn't screen. Who knows?

Yeah and who cares? Just do the secondary and put it behind you, like all the other ones. There's no use in wondering whether they screened for you or not. 😳

I'm not worried about it. 😀

just got BU...23 copies of the email actually!

Set up my username and password but now can't log in. It just stays right on the welcome page. Anyone else have this problem?

I am hoping there are still no essays.......

Oh, and where is Tufts? Seriously, its just one after another..... 😡

Yea, Northwesterns is due two weeks after you send it

Umm, can't find the search button for this forum anymore so i'm gonna ask it here:

Which schools need a photo from us? namely i want to know if USC needs it because i'm about to send off the check.

Does ANYONE at all know where Temple wants us to send our letters of recommendation!??! Iʻve been on their website a 987,98,379 times and I also e-mailed them, they just told me to check their website. I called them and they told me to check the website.

Can anyone post or send me the link where Temple wants us to send letters of recommendation to them!?!?

Thanks guys, good luck.

I was just perusing UCSF's website, and I found this statistic:

<<5222 AMCAS applications received
1533 secondary applications sent
532 applicants interviewed
141 students enrolled>>

Wow, less than 1/3 of the students who apply to UCSF receive a secondary? I had no idea UCs cut that many people out when they screen...

Just got Wake Forest via email. Anyone else?

This is where I sent 'em:

Temple University School of Medicine
Office of Admissions
3340 North Broad Street
Suite 305, Student Faculty Center
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19140

Some schools make it tougher than others.

When was your AMCAS processed?

DId you guys get an email a few weeks ago stating they got your AMCAS and if they needed more info they would request it? Or is this your first contact with WFU?

Yeah..isn't that SUPER lame? I always thought I'd left my SAT scores behind. Sigh... 🙄

Yeah I got an email on 7/20 saying they got my AMCAS and then I just got the secondary now. I'm sure they haven't sent them all out yet though. You're gonna get yours soon enough Bobodr! 👍

Me too, about 10 or 11 years ago, I don't remember when. Hell, I never studied for the SAT, just took it blind. But I intend to list it. I figure, if they just want to see it for curiosities sake, fine. But if they really believe my SAT score is a more important indicator of my ability to succeed in medical school than my GPA and MCAT... then I don't really want to go to their school. (ditto for Jefferson)

Quick question, does USC require photos?

can someone post the link to BU's secondary site?

or at least the essay questions, if any.

thanks

Yep just got an email for wake forest to fill out the secondary (second email I have recieved). Yay my first screened secondary.

Quick question, on Wake's 2ndary, are y'all going to write something in the additional comments box. I really don't know what would be good, aside from I really want to come to your school, but I think they would see that as a little desperate

Yeah. Since there's no limit, I'm using the space to put in my "why do you wanna go here" essay. Maybe it'd be a good idea...?

exactly. I don't think I studied for it either. whatever, I was just a dumb 16 year old! guess it'll show that upward trend everyone's always talking about 😉

Trust me.... they DO NOT screen. With my numbers, I would have never gotten through their screening process. :luck:

FYI, today I talked to someone in admissions at Mount Sinai who said that their secondaries will be sent "in August". She didn't have more specific information.

What are your numbers, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm excited about Wake's secondary b/c it's the cheapest by far out of all the other schools that I got. $55!

I am having issues with those darn secondaries that require listing courses and semester hours. My school is quarter system.

So on the secondaries, let's say that they leave two slots for two english courses. The requirement is that the we should have 6 semester hours of english, but under my quarter system, when I convert my 4 quarter unit classess into semester hours, I only have 2.7 x 2 = 5.6 semester hours. What the heck am I suppose to do?? There's only two slots!!! Can someone please offer me some wisdom. Thank you!

I finally got BU but i can't login to the system after i set up my account.

are you talking about NYU? I called and asked about that, the lady said to just do a slash, so you fit 2 classes onto one line.

BU has essays:
1. Please provide a narrative or timeline to describe any features of your educational history that you think may be part of particular interest to us.

and the odd one is:

The following essay question is intended to provide you with an opportunity to expand and elaborate upon the information provided in other parts of your application. Our goal is to learn something about you as a person, to get a sense of who you are and what you are about, beyond the basic facts of your academic work and your life history as it is otherwise available to us. We do recognize, however, that most of our applicants are applying to many medical schools and that the cumulative work of the application process is substantial. Therefore, this essay is optional. We do hope that you will write the essay, but if you feel that this essay will duplicate information you have provided elsewhere or that we can get an accurate picture of you without it, please do not feel obligated to write it. If you have provided us with a comprehensive understanding of your life history, your academic work, your nonacademic pursuits, and your personal strengths, you will not be penalized in any way for choosing not to write this essay.
Query on Professionalism

The concept of professionalism in medicine has become an issue of great interest in the last several years. While there are many definitions of professionalism, the following commentary sets out the key points:

Medicine is not a trade to be learned, but a profession to be entered. A profession is characterized by a specialized body of knowledge that its members must teach and expand, by a code of ethics and a duty of service that put patient care above self-interest, and by the privilege of self-regulation granted by society. [Snyder L, et. al. Ann Intern Med. 2005;142;560-582.]
Please write a 250-500 word reflection on the concept of professionalism in medicine and the traits by which it is constituted. Focus your comments on ways in which you have been challenged by your own life experiences en route to a career in medicine, as well as on ways in which your own experiences have shaped your understanding of the profession of medicine and your own determination to undertake the obligations inherent in this career. Use this essay to provide us with insights that are not reflected in your AMCAS Personal Statement or other parts of your application.

and NYU does NOT screen - the lady at the admissions office said AMCAS is very slow sending in applications and she has to get all the stuff into the system before she can send out secondaries... trust me they do NOT screen so don't freak out if you don't have it yet.

so i take it that most people are writing the optional essay for BU?

I REALLY don't want to! I really feel like I have shown my character and fully explained myself through my activities and such. But 250 words isn't much... grrrr

Okay I was COMPLETELY wrong about UC Davis's secondary, where I initially said that it doesn't seem as tedious as last year's. I failed to see the optional section where we have 6 other essays with 6000 characters max EACH, in addition to the 3 other essays we already have to do. Ugh......i don't know if I want to even complete this optional section......

I just got the secondary link from St. Louis University, but in the message there was only a blank space where the password should have been, so I can't logon until they tell me what it is. I hope there are no essays.

That's great news on UC Davis, waterlily. I guess I should be grateful they haven't sent it to me yet.

don't worry, they will send you an email soon to apologize about the mistake and give you the password. I heard that St. Louis do not require an essay, so it will be very quick.

I had the same problem. Were you able to figure this out?
Anyone?

I wonder if it's better not to write the optional essay for BU, but turn in the secondary three weeks earlier. I'm pretty backed up with others right now, so I think that's realistically the choice I face.

that's how I feel- I would rather send it in early than BS them on some topic I'm not an expert on
