I just got an email from Loma Linda that I will be receiving a secondary but that the PIN i need to access it will be sent in a later email, so can't do much right now...but i am ecstatic 😀 woo hoo!

anyone else having trouble logging into USC's secondary?

Hey guys
I don't mean to be anal or anything, but I'm looking for info on the following secondaries:

Emory
Penn State
U Maryland
Pitt

Does anybody know when they were available last year? I already see that Drexel was not available until August. I'm just trying to keep up with my records and make sure I'm on top of things 🙂

thanks! 👍

oh yeah, and I just have to vent for a second. My pre-med advisor wrote me two weeks ago yesterday and said that my composite letter was complete and she would get the head advisor to sign it the following Monday (last Monday) and send it out early last week. I finally contacted her today and she tells me that the head advisor is coming back from vacation next Monday (two weeks ago she said last Monday) and the letters will get sent next week! I mean, it's not her fault that the head advisor is on vacation, but I wish she had given me the right info. I know the extra two weeks probably won't make a difference, but I just want to be complete at the schools that have my secondaries! 😡

Ditto here. 😳

On St. Louis secondary there is an option to add additional comments for the committee. Do you think it is wise to put more information on the application??? Or should I just leave it blank?

I feel you. I have all my letters (pre-med committee, professor, coach) except for one from a physician. I've been on him for a little bit, but he was on vacation and then he told me this week that he has dictated the letter and given it to his transcriptionist to type up and send to interfolio. Well I figured that would probably only take a day. So a couple days pass and I email him back and tell him I haven't heard anything and just wanted to make sure his transcriptionist is on top of things. He emailed me back and says thanks for reminding him, she probably isn't working on it. I mean, that IS her job, right? I wish I just had her info so I could bother her directly instead of going through the doc, but hopefully I'll be sorted out soon. Really, I don't even know how many schools want a letter from a doc, but I figure I should wait and send the whole interfolio packet together.

I added like 3 sentences of updated information about my activities, nothing special. I got the impression that it's fine to leave it blank.

Just got off the phone with Loma Linda, they said two to three days before they send out the pins.

Does anyone know if Loma Linda screens before giving secondary invites?

Thanks in advance.

just got it! 🙂 yay!

You just got the pin??
yep...and i was able to access the secondary.

was it a strange pin, or something like your birthdate? Also, when did you get the first e-mail about the secondary? Do you know if they screen?

anyone get anything yet from ohio schools besides osu and case?

the pin was just random digits it seemed. I got the first email this morning ~9:15 am PST and from what i've read on here, they do screen.

I guess that is a positive that we got the e-mail then.

so i take it that most people are writing the optional essay for BU?
Damn BU, I thought they just wanted my money. I gotta get cracking on professionalism I guess.

I got an email yesterday from Cincinnati saying that their secondary will be up August 1st. Nothing from MCO or Wright though, was wondering the same thing. Didn't think that Wright screened.

I got Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch through snail mail, which is exciting because I think they screen.

Can anyone give me the address of where I should send my LORs for Northwestern???

Thanks!

Just finished LLU, great fun these secondaries are.

No, just OSU, Case, and Cinci as of August 1st. I'm pretty sure that MCO and Wright haven't started sending yet. And almost can guarantee they dont screen

wow, that's awesome! so fast! hehe...about the LORs, do the writers just need to fill out the form, without sending a letter? I couldn't figure out if they also wanted a letter or if the form was enough...sorry might be a dumb question.

Has anyone received an email from GWU that their application is complete? I'm just curious because I'm now complete at Georgetown even though I submitted my stuff to them a week after GWU. Is GWU just slower?

I haven't heard anything from Georgetown, not even that they received my secondary so I probably will call soon. And for GW, I just got an email a few days ago that they got my secondary but not that my file is complete. I think it's my LORs

I sent an email today asking because they got my secondary early last week and my recommendations were already there. I got a letter saying my secondary was there but not my reccs. I emailed them two days ago, hopefully they get back to me soon. There are a couple schools where being complete as early as possible is huge, GWU being one of them. What do you expect when they get 10,000 apps......

well, I did get an email from GWU saying they received my secondary... it's my LORs that I'm waiting on 🙁

I got the completed email from GWU. Secondary sent July 15, 2005, email received July 27, 2005.

Hmm, I submitted mine the same day as you. I guess that's a good sign. Maybe I'll hear tomorrow.

I believe it says in the secondary app, but once you submit, you can't get back in there to retrieve it. I searched and searched my emails, NW's site, and even tried google. I finally decided just to send it to:

Office of Admissions
Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine
Morton Building 1-606
303 East Chicago Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611-3008
U.S.A.

Hopefully it finds it's way to the right hands.

yay! i finally got BostonU although I can't access their secondary until tmrw morning, 10 AM ET..weird..but who cares, i'm not working on it tonight anyway, im so happy! loma linda and BU today! 🙂

for case western's essay about writing about a topic of interest outside of medicine, would healthcare policy work or is it still considered medicine?

could someone please repost the schools that screen prior to giving out secondaries again? That would be wonderful. thank you!

I think so. Talk about something that interests you! Show them you are more than just a study bug 😳 ! I talked about a competitive cheer club that I was on at my university. Cheerleading rocks! Anyway, just my opinion 😀 .

That's awesome! Were you ever on ESPN? 🙂

If I were you, I'd make it more interesting than that. Think about it, they're reading THOUSANDS of essays all pushing medicine. If they ask for an essay outside of medicine, write something that is not related at all.

They are probably looking to see what sort of non-science, non-medical interests you have. Writing about healthcare policy would just be boring and the same.

Why not write about the world of scuba diving. Anecdotal stories and narratives will most likely be refreshing for the adcom.

That has been my approach for CW's essay prompt.

Did anyone get UIC secondary yet... Just wondering

I wrote a narrative about playing hockey in college, the whole "game day" atmoshpere...

i agree. i wrote my Case essay about work that i've done in prisons over the past couple years---completely unrelated (at least directly) to my medical interests......

I agree with Chinorlz. I wrote about the physical, mental, and emotional experiences during my time as a racecar driver.

Writing an essay about something that you are interested in, besides medicine/healthcare, should be relatively easy, IMO. It sure seemed easier than writing the essay for Temple that wanted to know "Why Temple". (Because I would eat a poop hotdog to go to any medical school) :scared: :barf: OK, so I didn't write THAT, but you get the idea. 😉

I wasn't sure either about the LOR's for LLU. They didn't make it clear if thry just wanted them to fill out the form or send a letter as well. I guess we could call.

Question about BU's secondary. For educational history section, it says "Please provide a narrative or timeline to describe any features of your educational history that you think may be part of particular interest to us." If I'm a traditional applicant, can I leave that blank? I don't understand the way the phrased it. Do we have to answer it or what? What are you traditional applicants writing for that?

Recvd. BU e-mail this morning.

Me too! Going to write up the essay tonight after I dig up the article that they quoted...maybe then I'll have an easier time reflecting on "professionalism".

i would suggest reading the paper - maybe later though, - it spends alot of time speaking to the ethics of medicine and the role of the physician in different situations. in terms of professionalism, that line was about it, but it was referenced to an another paper: Ann Intern Med 136:243-6. i think this is supposed to be a personal reflection on professionalism, so i am not digging into other references, mainly my own experience. good luck !
