No more than THREE letters of recommendation will be accepted. Doh, can't use all my letters.

I just got Davis too!! Oh my goodness!! AH things are totally piling up!! DIdn't get Irvine yet either...but I'm keeping my hopes up!!

A lot of action today!! Heard from BU, LLU, UCD!! and the rejection from Wake Forest! AH the excitement!!!

ohhh yeah hehe, a whole bunch of us got it this morning. There's a whole thread about it. they sent a PDF attachment to the email...
 
I got a packet from Pitt in the mail today. Hoped it would be a secondary, but it's just a letter telling me to put them on my AMCAS and a silly brochure. ah well

Anyone not heard ANYTHING from MCV except a link to the status page? If they are going to reject me they need to get it over with!

I got that too! I thought "I put you on my AMCAS over a month ago!" Maybe they just like to keep us waiting...
 
My mom just called me at work to tell me that I got the Northwestern secondary by snail mail. I keep telling her she doesn't need to start stressing out about mail yet, but she doesn't get it. Earlier this week, she called to ask if a small or a large envelope is better b/c I had a small one from Tufts and a large one from WashU. 🙄
 
what's up with UCLA? is it the only UC that people haven't heard anything from yet???
 
I got a University of Illinois secondary today. Put a few more essays on it why don't ya?

UIC essays are kinda different than the rest... i dont feel like filling this one out.

Wow I'm surprised to find others feeling the same way as me. I've been sending all my secondaries in that I get, writing out checks like nothing, but after completing SO many secondaries, I'm at a point where I'm getting tired out...and UIC is the first school that I think I'm not gonna send it in b/c it is different from the rest
 
By the way, to make anyone feel better about backing out of UIC secondary, their out of state tuition is over 50,000. That's a lot compared to any standard.

Can you start at a school being an out of stater, declare residency in that state and pay in state tuition for the last two or three years of medschool?
 
HELP! I'm a bit confused...I have not been verified by AMCAS yet so my application is only at "submitted for review" but I've received 3 secondaries already. Is that right?
 
Ugh... I HATE that prompt for the *cough* "optional" *cough* BU essay... I've written this ~350 word monstrosity. I think only half of it has anything to do with "professionalism." Is everyone trying to tie in their personal experiences/etc. like the instructions suggest?? ...cuz mine just sounds lame... well, half of it sounds lame

Thank you, i will not apply to UIC now. Crosses fingers for UC's!!!

Okay different question: Columbia university. I decided to do the pay via check option but they didn't tell me who to make it payable to. is it safe to say it's gonna be "Columbia University"?

different schools have different policies about that. some won't, some will, so you need to research each school for that. on top of my head, I know MCO allows you to declare residency after 1 yr.
 
Aaaarrrgggghh!!!!!

These character count restrictions are driving me nuts! I need to shorten one of these essays for UCI from 1873 characters to 1800 characters but all of it's perfect as it is now... 😡

just curious...what is so different about it?
 
So for UCSD, they have you log in and check and see whether or not you have been approved to recieve a secondary. I'm not approved yet, although its been only 10 days since they recieved it. Is this their passive-aggressive way of getting out of telling you that you won't recieve one? All they have to do to tell you you're not approved is never change your status to approved....how long after recieving AMCAS did UCSD start sending secondaries out to you guys?

I wouldn't worry yet. While a few have gotten it, it seems that most have not received the secondary invite yet. Just be patient, as I am.. we'll get it soon enough! 🙂

Ah yes, the first cousin club of the "Should I fill out this optional essay, even if I don't have anything more to add?" and "Oh my God! This essay has a 6000 character limit. . .how am I ever going to fill 6000 characters?" clubs. :laugh:

(Neuroses based on the thought that the essay has to be filled out and/or the limit NEEDS to be reached to make the ADCOM happy) 🙄

....which are not-so-distantly related to the Catch-22 of SDN: I need SDN to fill out secondaries and feel good about myself, but I cannot fill out secondaries because I am too busy posting on SDN. :meanie:

UCLA and UCSF are pretty good about taking their sweet-a$$ time. At least I know for sure that the UCSF secondary is something like: "a) Sign here. b) Send us money" and that's it.

If you get SF in the first two weeks of August you're apparently in pretty good shape - at least that's how it was last year. Then again, everyone seems to be running a week or two behind last year's schedule anyway, so it could even be the end of Aug before they send out their first ones.

I haven't totally decided if I'm sending this one in or not, but I wrote a little bullet point thing about "deviations from basic curriculum" including like AP or Honors classes and Magnet/Gifted programs, etc. Other than that crap I'm completely Trad.
 
How do we check if Northwestern has received our letters? I couldn't find it anywhere on the status page.

I just sent AMCAS July 22 and its still "waiting to be reviewed".....mean while I only got one secondary from NYMC......Should I panic?? 😱

While you are not uber early, you are not late either. You are still in good shape as long as you do secondaries in a timely fashion. There are people on here who've gotten things in right at their fall deadline and miraculously still gotten interviews at good schools with tons of acceptances. And trust me, these particular people are people that were months later then you.

July is still ok, even early August is still ok. It is when you wait til September, October, November, etc. that things can get real bad. September or October is when deadlines begin for some schools, and September is when interview season starts.

Also, consider that you are ahead of the August MCAT people, so you should be ok overall.

No, you're fine. Like guju said, you're not super early, but you're still great. My best friend submitted on August 2nd last year and still had an October 15 acceptance, along with early interviews at other places and two other early acceptances. And her stats weren't super-stellar or anything.

Also, a bunch of schools haven't even released their secondaries yet. So I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck 🙂

AMCAS Verified: Not yet. Still waiting to be reviewed.
Secondaries Received: Columbia (Hah, got it the monday after I submitted it). Still told people even though I knew they couldn't have gotten a look at my appy. But they don't know that. 😉. Started Hopkins as well.
Interviews Granted: None

It's weird. I was so insanely happy to finally submit my primary App, then I get secondaries from Columbia and realize the essay writing will NEVER end. My schedule looks like this:

now-august 20th: study for aug MCAT
august 20th (after 5 pm)- on: breathe, then start secondaries.

It is definitely hard not to dislike the ADCOMS right now. But I'm trying.
