I got an interview at SUNY Upstate!!! They were lightning fast too! I just received the notice that I was complete via snail mail yesterday, and got the invite call around noon today (EST).

Now I really better get a suit! 😱

I've heard that UWash tends to update your status page w/o sending you an e-mail, so of course I've been checking it obsessively. Since noon, it has changed from "Thank you for submitting your application" to "Your application is undergoing an initial screening for competitiveness." I hope they like me; I really hope they like me. :laugh:

Has anyone recvd. their secondary yet?
 
does anyone else have a ridiculous password for pitt? mine is so funny

I just got the VCU secondary too... took a while (verified 7/13).

Hmm. Well I didn't get it. Pitt screens, though, so secondary invites will probably be spread out.
 
Got it like 30 minutes ago via email.

I got Pitt and Cornell within 14 minutes of each other.

4:42 PM today via email. The secondary is the same as last year, kind of similar to UMich.
 
Just got VCU. They want an essay on any topic outside AMCAS info and a few sentences on where you see yourself ten years from now.

Yes, I got an email invitation to complete the secondary on 7/22 (i'm in state)
 
Pittsburgh screens? I wasnt aware of that. Maybe thats why I havent received a secondary from them yet.

I'm white, middle class, and I went to high school in the suburbs. Is it acceptable to leave this blank? Unless they want to hear about my college experiences, I'm at a loss for what to write here.

don't doubt yourself, they just started sending them out today. besides, my sci gpa is like a 3.2 and let's just say i'm not part of the 35+ mcat club....i'm not even part of the 32+ mcat club.....hell i'm not in any clubs whatsoever 🙁

When was your Amcas verified? I was verified on june 14 the and havent heard anything.... I am really hoping for a secondary, its kind of silly but I am growing stressed out alreayd when I see people get SUNY - UP interviews and I was complete the same date... going through this process a second time is the worst.

june 13. i'm stressin too...i have a feeling my vandy rejection is in the mail considering people verified much later than me have gotten interview letters....

Aw thanks. My GPA is horrible (overall3.2, sci 3.0), which is why i don't think i'll make the cut. *sigh* I guess i just need to stop worrying and freaking myself out. what's the worst that could happen?

btw: Im in DC too

You don't have to have ethnic diversity in order to lend unique experiences and perspectives to the class. I'd suggest that you try to focus on something that is interesting to you that might not be to many others.

Do you have a high MCAT? I think a lot of these schools rely heavily on your MCAT score when screening applications. Good luck.
 
I received this suspicious looking email from an "msu.edu" account with a dzzmo.zip attachment. I don't think it is a secondary application. It looks odd and I am hesitant to open the file.
(--edit-- In fact, when I tried to forward the message on to MSU to ask if it was from them, it was rejected due to the presence of a virus!)

Did anyone else recieve this? I'm just going to delete the email.

Yeah. My first instinct when I saw the @msu.edu was "open the email, open the file." (I don't really get anything but med school email at that account.) Fortunately I saw the .zip file first and simply deleted!

i was verified july 6th and havent gotten vandy nor pitt notifications.

but not to worry. everything happens with time. im sure the best will happen for all of us

Thanks, for the input. I'll do what I can. I'm considering an essay called "White is a Color Too".
 
Yup! UCLA secondaries are out. I got mine back on 7/26 and was verified 7/15. They never even sent me an email to tell me they've received my application. I am CA resident, though that doesn't matter at UCLA, and I am applying to the MSTP program. Now... if only I could hear something from UCSF, I would feel so much better!
 
Just got the Wayne State "we have your amcas information" email....they said it could be another 4 weeks to hear about a secondary!

wow, i think for sure dont leave it blank, in my eyes that is the best question that can be asked for an applicant to toot his own horn. like someone said, theres far more to diversity than skin color, its a shame that the system has made us see it as only that. the way i interpret the question is: if every applicant including you had the same application and credentials, what then would make you unique and valuable to our community here? and maybe some obligatory commentary on why it would make you a good med student, doc and etc.

im certain that there are interesting facets about you that others enjoy experiencing in your presence. if you need to know what to write, consider even asking people you know what makes them value their association with you. blank, totally UNacceptable!

I was verified on July 13th, nothing from Pitt yet. I really want to go there! I hope I get some love
 
Take a look at their demographics - perhaps by being middle-class white raised in the suburbs you will be the minority, and thereby contribute to diversity. Let's face it, middle class white suburban is a shrinking class and no longer the majority by any means in many places.

(ok, I'm pissy today. Need coffee and breakfast.)

I don't know if they have a pre-secondary status page for straight MD. I'm applying MD/PhD, and that page is www.mstp.washington.edu I had to fill out a separate app in addition to AMCAS before I can get a secondary.

no problem, although like most other premed advice its just speculation and individual perspective, of course if its important consider asking someone in the know

Just got the email today, 11AM, that says they will be reviewing my app in the next 1-4 weeks. I was verified july 6th. as with msot schools, especially those that do screen pre-secondary, all this stuff takes time. :barf:
