Thought my interview went well, but apparently not because I just got waitlisted at my only interview so far. I have no other interview invitations. How screwed am I?
There is still plenty of time left to hear back from that school as some accepted applicants may choose to go else where. How many schools did you apply to?
Sorry to hear that man, but if I were you, I would prepare for the worst and buckle up for another cycle.
In the meantime, reevaluate your GPAs, DAT, extracurriculars, LORs, etc. just in case.
Sure there's still plenty of time left, and I have no statistics of how many of those that are waitlisted eventually get acceptances, but I'm sure it's not a lot.
Some people get accepted in August. Anything can happen. On the positive side, it hasn't even been a month since the first wave of acceptances, so there are many spots that are going to open once schools see that some of their offers aren't being met with deposits.
Seeing how expensive NYU is and it's private, I bet their waitlist moves a fair amount. It's also huge which helps. So hope is not lost, but I also wouldn't be expecting an acceptance. Best of luck
I'm in the same boat as you buddy 🙂 all we can do is keep our hopes high while continuing to better ourselves for the next cycle. We definitely have a shot though!!! Stay optimistic but realistic.
You should wait until February to really start freaking out (although you shouldn't). If you didn't hear back by then start to slowly prepare for the next cycle.
It's really early in the process which is good considering most schools only fill around a third of the incoming class when sending out first round acceptances. NYU is the largest class size which helps to improve your odds of getting off the waitlist. I'd keep in contact with the school (asking what you can be doing in the mean time to help strengthen your application, etc.) and hope for the best. If you do decide to find other ways to strengthen your application I would suggest doing a Masters program. Barry University has one that has done very well at earning its students acceptance(s) into dental school. Good luck!!
