Hi, I'm not sure if this is even good enough for acceptance but it looks like I'll be graduating with a 3.56 overall GPA and a 3.46 BCPM. Two Questions.... 1) do the schools consider rounding to two decimals or is this like saying a 3.6 overall and 3.5 BCPM, and 2) does it even look like I have a shot at allopathic schools in Texas? I will have 3 research experiences: one dealing with plant biology (it was the first research experience I can get at my school), the second is dealing with pathogens that are infecting our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and helping find a vaccine (still currently doing research with this and will probably assist in a publication though I doubt it will be much -- my name will probably just appear somewhere...no biggie) and three is I begin doing cancer research with the college of medicine at my school next month and will have about a year of that before I apply to med school. I will have shadowed about 4 different doctors in different settings but only a few days each one for a few hours except for a Geriatric physician that I shadowed once a week for 5 months. I also have been volunteering in the Emergency Department for about 2 years once a week.

**Any thoughts on my situation? I don't mind the critique at all. I haven't taken my MCAT yet though.

All advice is welcome.

I don't think they round to only one decimal place.

1) No, they round to 2 decimal places, and GPA always rounds down(i.e. a 3.569 = 3.56).

2) No idea really, need more info than just your GPA and activities. The MCAT makes a difference for example, as well as your rec letters, your race, etc. etc. By the sounds of it, your ECs are OK, nothing really stands out, so you'll need a good MCAT score to have a great shot.

Thanks, I wasn't exactly sure how they calculated that. I am Puerto Rican and can get LOR from the physician I shadowed for over 5 months, my PI (from all research I have done), and from a few of my professors. I do need to take my MCAT and one of my biggest downfalls, I think is that I received two C's and they are both in Organic Chem I and II and a B- in Organic Chem Lab which covers both I and II. 🙁

Not sure if this even should be mentioned, but I took OChem I for 6 weeks in summer A, started divorce proceedings because of abuse, withdrew from Ochem II summer B and took OChem II in the Fall. My divorce really affected me because of all the abuse and is the reason for those two grades of C's. I am not sure I should tell them this though because I know my situation was a bit extreme. My advisors told me not to withdraw because it would only make me stronger so I tried to stick it out.

3.56 is 3.56. It won't round to 3.6.

It's no big deal, but they actually would round a 3.569 to a 3.57. Or at least they did based off my self-calculated GPA and what is actually on my AMCAS application

you'll be fine with 3.56.
