Hi everyone,

looking for peoples thoughts on my chances of getting into pt school. My cumulative GPA is below a 3.0, currently a 2.90 as in undergrad I had a multitude of personal issues going on in the first half of my 4 years but was able to pick up the second half. I just finished taking A&P I and II along with psychology I and II over the summer which I was able to obtain all A's. Currently I am retaking physics 1 which I currently I have an A standing which if i can maintain, will boost my GPA to a 2.93 (averaged with the previous physics 1 grade). I plan on retaking physics 2 and chem 2 to improve my cumulative and prerequisite GPA. I will also be taking 1 additional online course to help boost my GPA to a 3.0

My question is: Do you guys think I will be considered a candidate and have a chance at PT school based on a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.56 prerequisite GPA(should i secure the A in physics 1)? Any thoughts, tips, advice would greatly be appreciated!!

I don't see why you wouldn't! Programs will see that you put in the work to pick it up, retake the classes you needed to take to be successful, and have a good pre-req GPA. I know some programs focus more on pre-req GPA than overall GPA, I'm just unsure of which ones those are. Just work on finding programs that fit you, your GPA, GRE, etc. and I think you'll be just fine. What are the rest of your stats like? GRE, extracurriculars, etc., if you don't mind me asking?

I worked my whole college career as a server and participated in on campus events, volunteer events, sororities and what not. I started observing outpatient setting back in february which now I have 300+ hours of outpatient hours across 3 different settings and i am currently doing my inpatient hours in both adult and pediatric settings. I havent taken the GRE yet, i plan on starting GRE prep early january to prepare for the test in approximately may.

That all sounds amazing, and incredibly similar to myself actually! That's great that you have a variety of experiences, including paid work and volunteer, and a great amount of hours in both settings. I'm sure you will be just fine! Are you planning to apply next cycle for school?

Yes, get your cGPA to 3.0 and you will have a chance. make sure you do not apply to super competitive schools. My cGPA was somewhere between 3.0-3.1, 3.5-3.7 for pGPA. Got accepted to 3 schools.
