Hi everyone, Canadian student here. I'll be going into my second year of undergrad shortly. In my first year my GPA was somewhere around 3.5-3.6. My questions are general:

1. Which US med schools regard Canadians as international students and which do not? What does being an international student entail in terms of the chance of acceptance?

2. What do most US med schools consider competitive GPA and MCAT scores, roughly?

3. Do most med schools require an undergrad degree?

4. What is considered a full course load? Are there any penalties for not taking full course loads during the school year? Any benefits?

Thank you very much in advance.

1. 95%. You can't apply to US Med schools unless you're a US Citizen/Permanent Resident. There are some around the border, but very few.

2. This is based on the applicant pool, and I can't comment because it changes every year.

3. No

I'm a Canadian currently enrolled in a US med school (no citizenship/permanent residency). There are many schools that will accept international students. The only place I ran into issues was with some of the state schools.

If you register for MSAR online you can access the average GPA/MCAT for each school I think along with whether or not they accept international students.
