Greetings this evening,

I'm a bit confused about how GPA is factored. I know the Osteopathic schools essentially accept the GPA that's adjusted from taking classes over in undergrad, while I hear allopathic schools do not. Osteopathic schools also don't factor math into their science GPA, while allopathic do, I've understood. ASSUMING THIS PREMISE IS TRUE, how do ACGME residency programs look at the same undergrad GPA when deciding about you (and I'm told they do look) if one is graduating from an osteopathic school? In other words, do they re-adjust your undergrad GPA for any courses retaken, mathmatics, etc., or just take it from admissions as it was issued by the undergrad institution like Osteopathic schools do?

The only programs I have heard of asking for an MCAT or Ugrad GPA are some of the ones that participate in the San Francisco Match (all ACGME). These are programs like Platics & some other fields that I can't think of now. Look up the San Fran match & you will see some of the different programs.

To my knowledge it is not standard practice & very rare for a program to ask for Ugrad GPA or MCAT score. Board scores are where it's at...

Sounds good, thanks!

I second Krazykritter. I've never heard of a residency program checking undergraduate grades/MCAT scores. ERAS doesn't even include that sort of stuff. If the other match formats (e.g. SanFran) require that info, that's beyond me! Obviously, I didn't match Urology (or whatever specialties still use that match process)!!
