I have racked up a few W's (Withdrew from class) throughout my journey as an undergrad student and I was wondering if anyone knew how they are weighed? All I have heard is that too many W's are bad. What is too many?

I also had a W plus a D/A in a class (I had to retake that one) before entering medical school a few years ago. the best advice I can give is to be able to explain why that happened. I was never asked about either of those during my interviews. If you have done well enough to get that far, you are there to sell yourself and not to explain a few grades. However, a school will questions your motivation for several W's. Be able to explain why you dropped them, and what you learned from the process.

Hey I also had a few W's on my applications... What it really means is that you have to be ready to explain the W's on your interviews.... I would even suggest maybe mentioning them in your personal statement just to clear things up

W's are fine as long as you have a valid explanation.... also it helps if you retook the course and did well

I had one W and it was okay. They will probably ask during the interview. I would not mention it in my PS unless it coincided with some life event that you really want to talk about. The PS shouldn't be there to explain why you are not perfect. It should be there to let them know something good and unique about you.

Thanks for the help! I retook the classes that I received the W's in and got A's, so hopefully that will help.
