Hello, I had a few questions about how AMCAS calculates your GPA

1) I have taken classes at a community college that are not transferable to a state university, or a university of california). For instance, I took an EMT class, a geometry class, and a few others. Are these included in my AMCAS GPA? It doesn't seem like they are "college level".

2) How is a W on my transcript handled? I withdrew from a class and it shows up as a W, so will it just be counted as an F?

3) How is the GPA calculated if a retook a class? If the class was 5 units and I got a C the first time, and an A the next, would I get 5 units of credit at a B? Or 10 at a B?

Thanks for your time.

1) Yes.
2) It shows up as a W and is not calculated.
3) Both counts in full. So it's somewhat an average, but in reality it's not an average.

For question #3, it is my understanding that they calculate both grades(your A and C) into your total GPA and I am pretty sure that they add the units from the retaken course also.

Edit: Beaten to it!

1) Yes.
2) It shows up as a W and is not calculated.
3) Both counts in full. So it's somewhat an average, but in reality it's not an average.

👍

3) A "C" with a retake of an "A" would average to a "B" if both show on your transcript.

Thanks for the quick answers

I have a question regarding this topic. How does AMCAS calculate your dual credit grades that transferred from high school?

For me, the dual credit grades were part of the community college transcript that was sent to the AMCAS, and just count regularly.
