Hello everyone!

I've gotten tired of searching around for a convenient way to calculate and keep track of my science GPA each semester, so I made up a spreadsheet and thought I'd share. It's nothing fancy, but I've entered some formulas so you can just type the course name, # of credit hours, and your letter grade. I did the plus/minus system with the normal A 4.0, A- 3.67, B+ 3.33, etc. Just enter the grade as "A", "A-", "B",....I've assigned numerical values to go with these letter/symbol combinations that are typed into that column. I put a few sample courses in to show how it works.

Okay, how to use it:

1. Enter in all of your courses with the information mentioned above in the first three columns. Don't edit anything in the other columns or you'll mess up the functions I've set up.

2. You'll see "#N/A" in all of the rows that do not have information. This will also appear in the Total GPA section. Ignore it until you've entered all your courses, then you can delete all of the rows which contain no courses. After you clear those, your calculated GPA should appear at the bottom. I've allowed space for 33 courses (I think). If you've taken more than 33 BCP courses, then I'm assuming you're smart enough to edit the file to fit your additional courses. 😀

3. When you want to add additional courses later (to the rows left blank), just copy/paste and entire existing row into the rows that you want to enter info. This will copy the functions you need into the new rows. Just edit over any course/grades that were copied into the rows and it will update the GPA with every change!

Hope this helps some of you. 🙂

Actually, instead of deleting the rows you're not using, you can just enter an "E" in the grade column and just don't enter anything for credit hours. As long as the credit hours are left blank, it won't affect your GPA negatively.

With that said, I am NOT responsible for any heart attacks caused by an accidental entry of a number into that column that causes you to see your GPA a point lower than it should be.

I don't like to be negative, but there are people on this board who had to "search around" for a way to calculate their GPA? Anyone on this board can hopefully put together a spreadsheet like this in about 30 seconds. Maybe I'm missing a joke or something.

I never said people couldn't calculate their GPA. I just made this for my own use and thought I'd share it since, believe it or not, there are many science people that don't understand how to set up an Excel spreadsheet with functions beyond SUM(A1:A2). I said it wasn't complex. I didn't act like it was. I was just sticking it out there to save someone the hassle of creating one. That's all. 😕

I don't understand the whole A+ thing. Lots of schools refuse to give A+ at all. I guess that is why they look at the transcript too?
It is a good system if it helps some people though 😀.

Yeah, I was really lucky that my school did - but even then only about half the professors actually give out A+. It wasn't easy though. Most of the time you have to be in the top 3% of the class to get that grade.

Without it, I think I am my GPA will probably drop .2 or so.

Thanks alot wvupredent! That was very nice of you posting this tool.
Even though I took one of Economics class that I had to deal with excel, I am still a newb using this program. I was searching for it. By the way, can you please show me or tell me how to calculate after 33 classes? lol. I am a super senior so i have taken many units.

Thanks in advance.
