My university does not use the +/- system, but instead implements the A, AB, B, BC, etc...grading system, where:

A = 4.00 grade points/credit
AB = 3.50 grade points/credit
B = 3.00 grade points/credit
BC = 2.50 grade points/credit
C = 2.00 grade points/credit
CD = 1.50 grade points/credit
D = 1.00 grade points/credit
F = 0.00 grade points/credit

How does AMCAS GPA calculation take this into account? I know an A- is 3.7, but how much would an AB count?

this is an easy one. go to: http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/amcas2006.htm

and click on grade conversion guide. they explain how its done.

actually that link is dead. go to this one instead: www.lewisassoc.com/handouts/GradeConversion.pdf

Sounds like the University of Wisconsin....

I believe it will be exactly the same as the GPA calculation at your school, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I have created a Microsoft Excel 97 spreadsheet that will allow you to enter up to 50 courses (name, hours, and grade) and then automagically estimate your cumulative GPA and BCMP GPA as if AMCAS was calculating it. Supports credit hours, semester hours, and various letter and numeric grading styles.

Attached as a zip file...

Note: the grade lookup tables should cover most people's grading systems, but may need to be modified according to the AMCAS Grade Conversion document as needed.
