So I have 3 transcripts and I want to know what my overall and my SGPAs are. I used an online PA calculator and it gaveea GPA that was higher than what my school said it was. Here are my grades and the schools that they are from

University Of Scranton

Gen Bio 1 A- 3 creds
Gen Bio 1 lab B- 1.5 credits
gen chem 1 B 3
gen chem lab 1 B 1.5
US history 1 A 3
composition A- 3
freshman sem A 1

Gen bio 2 A- 3
Gen bio 2 lab A 1.5
Gen chem 2 A 3
gen chem 2 lab B 1.5
US history 2 A 3
public speaking A 3
microeconomics B+ 3

Adelphi University (summer classes)

Calc 1 A 4
Clac 2 B 4

Penn State

Biology: Populations and communities A 4 (This is one of the four gen bio classes penn state has so I think it will count for the sGPA. The two gen bio classes at the U of S came in as an eqi for two of them)
Orgo 1 A- 3
Yoga A 1.5
Film A 3
Psych A 3

Next semester

Biology: Cells and molecules 4 (the last gen bio class I have to take)
Orgo 2 3credits
orgo 2 lab 2 credits
Creative writing 3 credits
technical writing 3 credits
Statistics 4 creits
Comparitive lit 3 credits

I will also take physics 1 and 2 over the summer at a CUNY so that I could make room for my double major classes.

So how am I doing for D.O school so far based on my grades? Does anybody have an esti of what my GPA and sGPA would be and why did the GPA cal give me a higher GPA? BTW I double checked the grades and the cedit values.

The simplest way would be to pop it all into a spreadsheet, and use the AACOMAS values for GPA (i.e. A = 4, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 ect ect) and multiple those quality values by the number of credits for the course to get the total amount you earned, and then another column for the total amount of points avail (i.e. 3 credit course * 4 = 12 pts). And then do a running sum.

Very effective, and you can play around with retakes and such to see how your gpa's change.

How am I doing in general with the amount of credits I'm taking and my grades. Also that form the first post posted, it wants my address info and everything. Can it still be used

It's actually quite simple to do it in excel..took my a total of 5 minutes, but your sGPA is 3.57 based on 25 credits and your cGPA is 3.69. based on 56.5 credits.

So how is that for d.o school? Also how big of a deal is an a- in orgo? And will the med schools care that I'm taking physics over the summer? Since I already took calc one and two over a summer. I forgot to mention that in my past post. I'm taking the physics classes at a CUNY where it would be cheap

As in search for yourself. GPA wise, you're a bit above the average but without an MCAT we have NO idea if you'll get in. You should get a 26+ and maintain (or exceed) your GPA. Anything below and its not guaranteed you'll get an acceptance.

Lets say hypothetically I got a 24 on my MCAT. Would that be an okay score with my GPA? And I don't think that my double major in biology and geobiology will really help me correct? Also how big of a deal is an A- in organic chemistry since people told me that it's very hard to get a grade that high in the class in general. And another thing, is there an interview form on SDN because I can't find one on the form section.

depends on your breakdown. 8/8/8 or 9/7/8 and you could still pull it off. any subscore below a 7 will be a bit of an issue.

and no, the titles of your majors are irrelevant in the admissions process. the A- in orgo helps, but I have no proof that orgo grades get a closer look than the others.

do you mean forum? if so, no, but you would find some good information in the school-specific threads.

Now I got Bs in Gen chem lecture one and in my gen chem labs. I also got a B- in gen bio lab one as it can be seen above. I personally don't believe that its worth retaking these classes but what are your opinons ?

I also agree there is no point retaking them. I wouldn't start thinking of retakes until you've progressed more in your degree and have also done upper level science courses.

Can someone calculate a new GPA for me?

Biology: Cells and molecules 4 (the last gen bio class I have to take) A
Orgo 2 3credits B
orgo lab 2 credits A
Creative writing 3 credits A
technical writing 3 credits A
Statistics 4 credits A
Comparitive lit 3 credits A-

Man, you are a big boy/girl who is in college and has obviously gone through the pre-med courses and many math courses. You can figure this out by yourself.

Here is the guide that advair250 mentioned:

1) You take your courses, and for each course* you calculate:
# Quality points = (# of credits)*(grade, e.g. 4.0, 3.7, 3.3, 3.0, 2.7, etc.)

2) Then you separate the classes into science classes (not including math for AACOMAS), and another set with all your classes.

3) You sum up your total quality points in each category (science and cumulative), and you sum up your total number of credits in each category (science and cumulative).

4) You then divide the total quality points in each category (science and cumulative) by their respective total number of credits, and there is your GPA.
sGPA = (sum of science quality points) / (sum of science credits)
cGPA = (sum of all quality points) / (sum of all credits)

*For any retakes, you only count the very last retake, and don't include the credits and quality points of the previous classes into your calculations.

You can easily set this up in excel with 3-4 formulas, you just have input the info.

👍
They told you how to calculate it. Do the work, don't ask someone else to do it for you.You can't expect to do well in medical school with this attitude.

I calculated it already I just wanted to see if anyone calculated the same......

sGPA 3.64
cGPA 3.74

Can't tell if trolling or very neurotic 😕...

Really, you could also just fill them into the AACOMAS courses section of the application, and you'd have a more official calculation than any of us would do for you. Or you could search for the AACOMAS excel calculator that is floating around on SDN.

I'm not in the process of applying yet so i can't fill out the AACOMAS course section correct?

You can do it any time you want, whether you're applying now or not. You don't have to submit it, but you could register and fill out the app. Plus if you are applying in the 2014-2015 cycle, you could have your info from the app you fill out now get turned over so you don't have to fill it out again next year.

What you mean ? You mean the app will be saved for the 2014-2015 cycle?
