My school averages courses that are repeat, but I know some schools take the latest/higher grade to calculate GPA. I was wonder how do school evaluate applications for granting admissions to MS or SMP programs. My actual GPA on transcript is 2.75 but if the calculation was done taking into higher GPA for repeat classes GPA will work our 3.0+. My understanding is that they look at official transcript and go with that number(in my case 2.75)....

there is no secret formula that all schools/programs share. they will look at the number on your official transcript, but if they see you repeated courses and improved significantly, they may take that into account. I highly doubt that they will make their own calculation, but then again I don't know. If its on a 4pt scale, chances are they respect its validity and don't recalculate.

Well, most SMP's (at least at allopathic schools) tend to evaluate grades like AMCAS, not AACOMAS. IE, any retake courses get averaged, NOT replaced.

It will be tough to get into any SMP with a 2.75. While 3.0 may be the minimum, realistically 3.2-3.3 is more what is expected, and this is if you have 32+ MCAT to go with it.
