GPA Calculations

Hi,

Under categories I see BCP and I am wondering what it stands for. It is probably something obvious, but it doesn't come to my mind.


Also, do schools mostly use GPA with +/- or without +/-?

Biology Chemistry Physics. I'm told most schools weigh +/- more heavily because without +/- is usually inflated but it probably depends on school and the adcom that's looking at your application.

BCP = Bio, Chemistry and Physics

Schools usually use with +/-. Students who come from schools with the +/- have their GPAs calculated without the +/-, so they can be compared against students who come from schools without the +/-.

I thought the + / - depends on the university or college that you come from. If that school uses +/- on your transcript then the dental schools will use that to calculate your marks. If your university does not give out +/- grades then the dental schools will only use that, and have no way to compare marks with another school that uses the +/- system.

Without +/- is only inflated compared to your with +/- GPA if you got more minuses than plusses. The opposite is true if you got more plusses with minuses. This means that unfortunately, in the comparison between students from +/- schools and students from non +/- schools, the student with more minuses benefits, and the student with more plusses loses out.

Kind of weird how it works, but I suppose it's the easiest/fairest compromise for students whose schools don't assign qualifiers on letter grades.

What I wonder is what people put up on their Pre-Dents. I originally had my +/- GPA posted but switched to the non +/- GPA when I heard that most schools went with that in their considerations.

Hmmmm... mine are almost the same (differ by 0.01).

I put mine with +- included

my GPA is a little higher for w/o + - but it is not by much so no big deal
