Im confused, I read that the avg gpa for entering students into DO school is 3.35 for science and 3.5 for nonscience. But my pre health Advisors say that it is 3.5 for both science and non science. Am i being over optimistic in thinking that a 3.35 will cut it? Also I am a pscyh major, so my 3.3 is in the basic pre med classes, like bio, physics, ect. Is the avg at DO school a 3.3 bc most students are science majors and take harder science classes?

No, you're not being overly optimistic with a 3.35; I believe the stats are slightly higher now (and closer to 3.5) but a 3.35 will definitely not take you out of the running. It really depends on the rest of your application.

Your major makes no difference and a lot of non-science majors go to DO schools; psych is more common than you may think.

Yeah, the rest of your app will be the determining factor, and dont worry too much. It is mid-August and I have 7 interview invites already, never thought it would happen to get so many so quick!

Like I said, dont worry too much. My GPA is 3.3, but I do have an extremely strong app. with all of my other stuff, including LORs. The often repeated "It is more than just numbers" is very true, and moreso at some schools than others.

Apply broadly.

I thought that schools only look at your cGPA (cumalitive GPA) and sGPA (science gpa) and weight these two somewhat evenly. I don't think they even look at your Non-Science GPA (which would have the abbreviation of nsGPA I guess). (Of course, your non-science gpa will be reflected within your cumalitive gpa though).

Correct, anyone?
