i thought that i was going to have my gpa going for me when i applied but now that aadsas calculated it plus the repeats and the no counts my gpa is in the trash like skimming 3.0 (science)

it sucks because this year i did great and at least my school science and cum gpa was great.

ahhh did that happen to anyone else? just wondering if you also thought you were stable and then realized you weren't.

laters

so let me get this straight...

you thought you'd have a 3.3 but now have a 3.0? that's a pretty huge miscalculation on your behalf. what surprised you so much?

and how's your cum gpa now?

Ok, I need some advice and feedback on my chances.

I go to University of Texas. My overall GPA is 3.25 currently. My science GPA is 3.0 i think. I just calculated these(they are not from AADSAS). I made a D and also few Cs(maybe like 4-5). The class i got D on, i retook and got a C ... it will look pretty bad im sure. I do not have much extra stuff that can boost my chances like internship or volunteering at hospital or what not. Also, I havnt had a job yet(yea pretty bad...).

Considering all of this, what do you guys think my chances are for getting into dental school? My top choice is NYU and im glad it is considered "easy."

Please be honest guys assess my chances. Any advice and input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, could anyone link me to where i can get the ADDSAS GPA? I looked through their site but couldnt find it.

you don't have to hijack other ppl's threads. you can start your own at the pre-dental page and click on "New Thread".

I have similar stats and I'm applying. NYU would be one of your best shots. You really need to do well on the DATs tho.

for the aadsas gpa, look below.

I was surprised that my science and overall gpa both went up about .6 on both. This includes 2 repeats so I thought it would drop compared to my transcripts gpa. Anyways, that sucks for you, good for me. 😕

cotinara: if you applied early, you still have a chance. make absolutely sure you rock the DAT though (i.e. 20+)

gameguard: if your Cs and Ds are in prereq sciences then you will have a hard time getting into d-school. and just to clear up the rumor, NYU is not 'easy' to get into. this year only 18% of applicants were accepted!

uteman: a 0.6 increase is impossible. are you sure you didn't mean 0.06?

0.6 or 0.06?

cause 0.6 is a HUGE difference. how could it change that much??

.6???? are u for real?

Come on people, you should be able to realize that a .6 increase is mathematically impossible... 🙄

It's just a typo...

agree! that's almost like making all A-'s instead of all B's, and it might be the difference between getting in and not getting in. it's more like .06

+0.06 is still pretty sweet.

Thanks for the reply, reason im posting here is because it wont let me create threads.... says i dont have the privilage. Any ways, Is it really gona be hard with my Cs in science classes. What can I do to improve my chances(other than high DAT)? Thank you.

don't want to hijack this thread. i have two blemishes in my pre-reqs (D's) and retook them and aced them.. my science gpa is a 3.5 even with the averages. is this going to KILL me??

not at all. now if you retook it and only did marginally better, adcoms would worry you can't hack d-school courses (which are much harder than anything in undergrad). 3.5 is a very respectable science GPA, i wouldn't worry 👍

and how's your cum gpa

it was my bad on not reading the directions about repeated classes being entered into the gpa. I did really badly my sop year and got CD's in the main scinece classes so this year I repeated everything and got AB's in all my classes. At my school those bad grades are taken out of your gpa. so I was riding on the wave that I had a pretty sweet gpa for when i applied. So that is why when I calculated my 3.4 science gpa i was freaking out when on aadsas it was a a 2.94. on overall cum on aadsas its a 3.44 but at my school its a 3.65
