Hey guys, do you think I should even consider applying for dent schools with a sGPA lower than 3.0? If I get maybe a 19 or 20 on the DAT, do you think I have a chance or should I go for one year masters then apply? :scared: I'm freaking out now 🙁

There are many different factors that could play into that decision:

1) Are you black, hispanic, or native american? If so, then apply.
2) Are you from a state that only accepts instate (i.e. Mississippi), if so, you could consider applying, but no guarantees
3) How low is your GPA exactly? If it's a 2.99, then you could apply. Still don't stand a good chance, though.

If you have a sub 3.0..you need a lot higher on the DAT to get noticed. The sub3.0s who interviewed (that I know of) had 24+ scores on their DAT. It really is a numbers game for sub-3.0s. Someone with a 3.2 and an average DAT can get away with that low of a GPA if they built orphanages in Africa or something..but a sub 3.0 can't. No matter how much of an outstanding application you have, in terms of references, publications, shadowing, awards, etc., you either a high GPA, a high DAT, or both.

I would do a Master's if I were you.

IMHO, people with less than 3.0 GPAs (science or overall) should only apply if they are financially stable and to simply put it... if they got cash to burn, take your chances and apply to 20+ school, without interviews alone, it will cost you about $5,000

Do you have 5k to blow away?

If I had a Science GPA less than 3.0 there's no way I'd waste my time and money applying.

I've heard of people (caucasians) with sub 3.0's getting into Dental School. I dont know how, but its possible. Just do your best to make sure you get better grades. If you cant get in, opt for the masters or post-bac.
