hey guys,

I was looking over the GPA that AADSAS calculated for me and realized how low it was, something doesnt seem right. I go to a Canadian University and we get marked on according to the 0-100 scale. My cumulative average is 79% which would work out to approx. a 3.4 according to my calculations. However, AADSAS shows that its 3.25 with a 3.22 scie gpa. Other than 1st year where a majority of my marks were B's and 1 C, over the past three years only 2 marks have been less than a B with the majority being A's. Im really panicking rite now. I still have to write my DAT on the 15th of sept, but if thats what my GPA works out to👎....then i really dont see the point . anybody have any ideas, could it be wrong???????????😕....i guess i just wasted my whole summer studying for nothing.

The AADASA is most all the time lower then what the school's gpa is. Just be glad yours didn't drop more then that like most of our did.

Hmm thats weired they calculated mine as its supposed to be (according to my calculations)
did you try calling them ?
I am sure there must be some appeal process
btw i am taking the DAT on sept 15th as well 🙂

hey i was wondering do dental schools just look at overall gpa, sci gpa and bcp gpa or do they look at all the courses you took and what you got in each? Thanks in advance.

My GPA was exactly my schools GPA, the only way I see that it can be lower is if you retook a course, or the school has different Numbers for each letter grade.

how did you calculate it.....lets see. 3.2/4.0 = 80 ?

well according to the Ontario Universities site....a 3.4 is 77-79

you can't do it like that. I go to an Ontario School too. You have to convert each individual mark to the 4.0 scale, then find the average of all those.. the reason why the AADSAS is lower is because as you drop on the percentage scale you drop MORE on the GPA scale.. Therefore a 75 --> 3.0 or something will hurt your average more than averaging a 75 with a 77. (i hope that makes sense)

yeah when a 77-79 is 3.4.. it hurts haha..

goodluck bud.

Be happy. In the U.S., in general a 79 is considered a C.

that's easy, happened to me as well. First thing first call them 800-353-2237 (that's what I did).

when they calculate your GPA they look at the level of the courses you've taken (100, 200, 300 etc) also the number of credits and when it was taken (unfortunately summer courses count for less than regular semester courses, even though in my school they were actually much more difficult). Also, they look at retakes, that is if you've retaken a course, it counts for less. etc

Do you by any chance happen to know how much summer courses count for?

Are you sure about this? Do you have a reference for the claim? Assuming this is true it certainly is interesting news considering the fact that summer courses have the same number of class contact hours as regular semester courses.

I know exactly what you mean. I have a 3.48 college GPA,3.42 science GPA. yet when all is done on ADDSAS. I now have a 3.3 overall, and a 3.17 science. I can't believe ADDSAS counted college courses I took back in high school. THAT WAS UNFAIR!!!! How did I know I want to do dentistry at age 14? How was I suppose to know that those 2Cs and 1B in science was gonna count 8 years later? that is crap! I only took those cause my mom made me do it.
Oh ya...dont REPEAT A CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. I purposely took a F in ochem beause my grade was unfairly calculated. Thinking course forgiveness is a much easier way out. That is why my GPA is soo low because I have 1 F on my transcript, even though I retook and got an A the 2nd time; still counted. It's amazing how much damage 1 F in a class can do for ya.
