Ok, i just had a meeting with my advisor and she told me at the University of Delaware they do not count pre-calc in the science gpa. I told her that DO and allo schools do but she doesnt believe me. She said that just calc and up is calculated and i was wondering is she is right. I recieved a D in precalc and was thinking about retaking it since it would significantly boost my gpa. Also is retaking prereq classes such as chem 1 that i recieved a C in be helpful or would it be better to retake orgo 1 that i recieved a C in. Any info would be great, thanks.

Hey,

Math classes are not counted as science classes but it isn't good to have a D on your transcript. My brother went to a state school and they could remove the old grade if you retook it. But most schools won't let you do this. You really don't want any Cs on your report card unless say you took 3 semesters of Chem and got a C-A-A. I got a C+ for 1/3 of my Ochem and a C in biochem...and I survived. But all that stuff is going to be on your MCAT (not the math) so make sure you know your stuff.

Just my opinion.

I think DO schools leave math off of science, but MD incudes it.
Either way, you could try to not list it as a math course on your app, and hope that AMCAS overlooks it.

I can speak for MD, but not for DO. AMCAS factors in Calc courses into your BCPM. DO schools, from what I've read from other SDNers, do not. AMCAS verifies your transcripts. If there's a MTH (or any variation) on there, they'll put it in its right place. AMCAS is very thorough.

1. DO schools do not count ANY MATH (Calculus or otherwise) in the science GPA.

2. MD schools count ALL MATH (Calculus, pre-calculus, et. al.) in the science GPA.

3. Don't EVER listen to a pre-med advisor.

4. ALWAYS retake any class below a C. They will be completely replaced on a DO application.
