So, I've been reading requirements in the UK, and one school wanted a college GPA of AT LEAST a 3.8. Now, out of a 4.0 scale, that's ridiculously high, especially for the term "at least." Is it out of a 5.0 scale? I' confused.

The U.K. does not use the GPA system internally - instead, they have various classifications awarded for honours degrees. The GPA that they state is for North American applicants using the 4.0 max scale.

I find that so hard to believe, b/c a 3.8 is super high. It's not like people with a 3.7 are slackers. Anyway, I wrote the school, so we'll see.

Unlike North America where you can sometimes 'argue your case', you can't do that in the U.K. I know - I grew up there. If you want to apply to the medical school in question, you pretty much have to do what they ask of you. I, too, think it's a little high since Oxford was asking for a GPA >3.5 a couple of years ago when I was applying and Glasgow was asking for a GPA >3.3. Both are excellent medical schools. Bottom line: their country, their rules.
