HELP!! I just got my confirmation copy of my application in the mail and was totally freaked by the GPA that AADSAS calculated!! So freaked that I broke out a calculator and had to go over the AADSAS equation again...

(earned pts/possible pts)*4... right??

Doing it that way, I had gotten the SAME GPA that my school transcript had calculated... but could not figure out why AADSAS had something totally different... something alot lower!

Then I looked at a summer semester where I only took one class:I got a B+ in the class... BUT instead of it being a 3.5... AADSAS has it as a 3.33!!

Could this possibly be a mistake on their behalf??!! My school very much goes by the . 5 scale BUT the graduate school goes my .33 scale. I checked the school code and everything is correct so I really don't know what to make of this... or what to do!!

If anyone can help, or has any idea... let me know!!

In order to standardize everyones scores, AADSAS uses it's own rules for calculating undergraduate GPA. A is equal to 4, A- is equal to 3.67, B+ is equal to 3.33, and so forth. This allows ADCOMS to more easily compare applicants from different schools and grading systems, and puts students on a more level playing field. It wouldn't really be fair if two students from different schools both averaged a B+ in undergrad, with one reporting his GPA as a 3.5 and the other having to report a GPA of 3.33. Don't fret too much though. You're transcripts will still be sent to schools reporting the GPA you're used to seeing; it's just your AADSAS GPA that will be different.

Good luck with the application process 🙂

AHA!! That puts it in a way better light! Thanks a bunch... was starting to sweat it out for nothing!!😉

How long did it take to get the confirmation letter from AADSAS?

approximately, A is 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B- is 2.7 and so forth. I've never heard of a B+ being 3.5. 🙂

HSO is right.

Last Summer I took a science course at local college and got an A. For my alma mater, my A will be transferred in and accepted as a Pass toward my degree. So how medical schools calculate my science GPA? Do they count my Summer science course as 4.0 or not?

Your transferred course will not affect the calculation of your GPA if it was accepted as a Pass. It will only affect your total number of credit hours. I believe that as you fill out that portion of the AADSAS application you can choose to select whether the class was letter grade or P/NP. Entering P/NP prevents the course from being included in the calculation of your GPA.

Interestingly, AADSAS doesn't use the A- =3.7, B+=3.3 system that most schools use (like my alma mater). According to them:

A+=4.333
A =4.0
A- =3.667
B+=3.333
B =3.0
B- =2.667

Here's the link for the full breakdown if anyone cares:

Do transferred courses from an old school to a new school get tallied into ones GPA for the Dental School application, or does it affect credit hours only? I ask because I have not yet begun the application process and I had attended a school ~10 years ago and accumulated ~30 credits as well as a very low GPA. After a long pause with school, I transferred to another college and all of the credits transferred--not the grades. So, what do I submit as my GPA to the AADSAS? Please help!

ha , good to know A+ finally get rewarded. I have bunch of A+s, good for me:clap:

an A+ is worth 4.333? That's awesome!

hey HSO and pddt...

just to let you know, the grading system at my undergrad doesn't include minus (i.e. A, B+,B,C+,C,etc.). That is why we go by a .5 GPA system...

I know, I know... east coast schools have to be different!😛

Whatever courses and grades are on your official transcript.

If there is no grade listed on your official transcript, then you don't have to list a grade on you AADSAS application.
