Overall GPA 3.78 and sGPA 3.69
DAT AA: 24, GC: 29, OC: 22, BIO: 26, RC: 20, QR: 21, PAT: 19

I struggled in my last two semesters of college due to a death in the family, resulting in two C's on my transcript and lowering both my overall and science GPA quite a bit -- I plan to include this in supplemental information / contextual info. I know my GPA is a bit lower than average for these schools but do I still have a shot at top schools like Columbia, UPenn, UCLA, UCSF, etc.? Or would I get screened out solely on my GPA / C's on my transcript? I know my overall GPA is technically still competitive compared to the national statistic but I'm seeing that these schools typically have a 3.8+ average GPA so I'm feeling a bit discouraged.

I do believe other aspects of my application (LORs, shadowing/volunteering hours, research publications, etc.) are strong so hopefully my GPA/grades don't get me initially screened out. But was wondering whether it would be worth it to still apply. I'm planning to submit my application during the first two weeks of June.
