I have a bit of an issue: I am applying this year and have already submitted AMCAS and my GPA recorded on the application is decent. However, I am taking classes this summer and fall and graduate in December, and I am having major issues with one class this semester (Thermodynamics) and may very well end up getting a C. My question is this: do medical schools only care about the grades on my AMCAS application, or will they look at my grades for my last two semesters of school and see that I got a C and be like "oh, well we don't want you anymore because your grades are slipping"?

Schools generally say, after accepting you, that your matriculation is pending "acceptable" completion of your course work.

A 'C' probably will be fine. But it's really up to them to determine what their standard is. But they will want your complete transcript when you enroll. Can you drop the course?

I don't think 1 C will kill you as long as the rest of your final semester is strong. I'd expect getting ≤3.25 or >0.25 less than your overall average final semester would probably get you a chat with someone from admissions, though. (In other words, if it'd look suspicious to you, it probably would to them too.)

I had a somewhat similar situation.
I intentionally took it easy senior fall, etc. because I already submitted my amcas with my first 3 years of college gpa.
Late into the fall term I learned that it wasn't the best idea to slack off because if I got wait listed at a couple of schools, I could send them updates with my grades and other activities that I was doing my senior year.

Turns out I did get wait listed at a few schools I really wanted to go to, so instead of updating them that my gpa fell and that I stopped all extra curric activities, I simply sent them loi's of how I could contribute to the school and why I really wanted to go there. I got off of one of my waitlists so it turned out fine for me.

Bottom Line
It may hurt your chances at the schools you get waitlisted at because you can't send wonderful update letters. On the other hand, you only have to feed them the good news. In your case, you can take a little senior year break like I did. Its a calculated risk.

Also, by slacking off I mean nothing in the C's or below. At one of the schools I was initially accepted at, they stated that I needed to get at least C's or above in all my remaining classes because they didnt want me to bomb my senior year. So a C will not get your acceptance withdrawn once you send your final college transcript in towards the end of the school year.

Some schools require that you update them before they make their final decision. Those schools will take the grade into account. (but that doesn't mean that one C will kill your application)

Hey guys, I am in a similar situation. I got into my top choice this year, but my marks feel in my final semester.

The issue is that I don't know what a "C" grade is in percentages, since there might be something lost in the conversion (I am a canadian applicant). Can anybody clarify? Is it 70-79 or 60-69?
