gpa of 2.13!

hello!i just got my ece report which says that my gpa is 2.13.heart broken!more so as i always stood among the top five in my batch during bds.at a loss as to what to do now.i have a toefl score of 293 and will be taking my nbde part 1 in dec.do i stand any chance?will my low gpa reflect badly in my application.somebody please do help! 🙁 :scared:

hey if you have an average pecentage of 60 or above , ur gpa has to be above 3.00. if its not there must have been a big mistake at the ece, contact them and demand it. this should not be happening to students. best of luck with your efforts

Hi,

Dont worry about the GPA.Sometimes when you get it done from one evaluator it does come less.A friend of mine had a GPA of 2. something and then she got it re-evaluated from another organization and it increased to 3.8.Just re-send it and wait for the result.

could you tell me if there is a minimum requirement of gpa to take the part 1 exam?im still doing my internship,so i dont have my final degree cret yet.wes needs the final cret for evaluation.how should i approach the ece for re evaluation?

hi, WES is best to get high GPA, go for it, can apply online, it`s very fast too. 🙂

when checking through the uni requirements list for some of them they specifically mentioned that they need ece evaluation,eg:boston,tuffts.so is it of any use to get wes evaluation done?

I just called them yesterday, they accept any report from ece only.

I am nto sure if WES wants degree. cuz I had mine done and i only sent them 4 yr transcrips.

hey
i am sorry abt hearing ur low gpa.but u do not need gpa to apply for part 1 exam.u just need gneral eveluation stating that u have finished ur dentistry in INDIA.to apply all school u need course by course [ with GPA] eval.
GPA does matter in many dental schools.but as said u can get it with WES for better gpa.schools which asks for ONLY ECE report are;
BOSTON UNI, UCLA,UCSF,NYU,BUFFALO UNI,NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNI.
so the bottom line is try to score above 92-93 to compensate for ur low gpa.
for WES u do need at least provisional degree certificate ,but u should also have attempt certificate and rotating internship cert.

Thank you pinkindia for your reply.you were saying that gpa really does'nt matter but looking through other threads and posts on this topic evrybody seems to be making a big deal out of this.do you have any idea if applicants were rejected only because they have a low gpa(say they have good board scores and say their original marks sheets of bds show they were pretty good students)?

as it is ,u cant do anything about ur gpa. get one frm wes , hopefully u should get a better gpa frm thr. make sure u send the better gpa to schools which dont need ece. gpa is not very important thts wht everyschool says. but in my experience i have seen tht if the gpa is above 3 the schools dont bother much but below 3 gpa is noticed a lot. many people have been refused even interviews with less gpa. but schools dont just look at the gpa ,but the whole package . get excellent marks in part1 . take ur part2 also if possible. get some experience in this country thts very important.
compesate for ur gpa as much as possible. u cannot change ur gpa, so dont worry about it.
i know a lot of people who r in schools with less gpa. the key is to do ur part1 well. the higher the better.

I'm planning to take Part 1 in March and what do I need to get the evaluations done by ece ? Just the degree and provisional certificate to be eligible to take the exam. I can do the GPA course by course evaluation before applying to school. Please advise.....

People make the mistake of applying for a general report for the NBDE and then make a course by course for applying to schools. You dont need to do that. You can apply for a course by course from ECE and apply. Go to the ECE webite and it will give you details on what to submit depending on the country you are from. From your name, I decipher that you are from India. If you are, then submit copies of - 12th grade board report, all mark sheets from your first yr of dentistry to final year, your consolidated mark sheet, a transcript from your university, a syllabi book if possible from yr university, your provisional degree certificates and the certificate that claims you are a registered dentist in India ( if available ). A bit late.. But I hope this helps.
I had a average of 63% in my BDS. I sent in my papers to ECE for the course by course evaluation. I got a GPA of 2.3 from them. I wrote an email stating that a friend of mine who did his graduation from the same University [he got 64% btw] got 3.4 and guess what? they didn't bother to reply back.
Then I decided to give WES a try and guess what? I got a GPA of 3.67
The only problem is that a few universities [Boston for one] don't accept WES. But I believe that's a small price to pay.

p.s I would appreciate it if someone could give me the contact details of the CEO of ECE. It's been a looooong time since I did multiple extractions

Hello,
I was going thru all the posts in this thread, i also do have lots of doubts abt the gpa stuff. All the universities ask for a course by course evaluation report I believe. Do they give Gpa based on avg basis.. I mean do they take into consideration our SSLC,+2 marks along with the dental degree percentage to give the final G.P.A... Hope someone will clear my doubts... I intend to give my exams only next year and hasn't applied to any of the evaluation services...

Hey, I was reading over and I have a question. Can you please give me a web add for WES. I also have several certificates of acomplishments during dental school, such as best research in public health, do you think I counts for anything. Also someone said to get a lot of experience here in the usa, what do you mean buy that? Thanx 👍

hi Manasa. Yes you are right. All the universities need a course-by-course evaluation.You will get only ONE GPA from the evaluating organization. Your SSLC marks card as far as I know are not needed. Your 12'th or PUC marks card are needed. But will not be used to calculate your GPA. Instead,[WES=]your evaluation will have a page which will state that you have completed US equivalent of High School Diploma. Only your BDS marks will be used to calculate the GPA.
Su74, yeah. NYU will accept other organizations too. I sent in my WES.

also wat is meant by experience in US means a work experience with a dentist in US.YOU can either work as a dental assistant or even volunteer him.and then u can write it in ur application when u apply to various schools.
