Hi,

Don't know if anyone knows the answer to this, or has encountered this situation, or a similar one, but I've recently been accepted to a US medical school, and once I received the acceptance packet in the mail, their 'terms for matriculation' indicate that one must have a 3.0 GPA in all undergrad, grad, and pre med reqs before matriculating...but what if the GPA you applied with was below that? They request that transcripts are sent to them before matriculating- will this become an issue now, post acceptance?

Thanks to anyone who can give me any information!

Honestly, this sounds like an individual-school issue. Anything you get here would just be speculation, so you're really better off just emailing their admissions office.

What school is it?

This is a very specific example, but it could hav applied to a fellow member in the past.

She didn't say which school, she was just surprised that she saw that in what would be a standard acceptance packet, considering they presumably had already reviewed her application, and saw her lower than that GPA, since they gave her an interview, re-reviewed her, and accepted her anyway.... her GPA since her AMCAS was verified is considerably above their 3.0 min, but this is what she applied with... super weird....

Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned shes a much older applicant (in her 40s), so it's been a while since she was in undergrad- with her lower than 3.0 GPA- she's since then gone onto graduate school, and done much better....figured I'd try and get her some info, if anyone had any 🙂

It's impossible to know for sure without seeing the exact language in the letter, but possibly they mean an OVERALL average of 3.0 when undergrad and grad courses are averaged together. (This isn't AMCAS, after all, so they're free to compute your average any way they want.) On that basis, the applicant is probably OK.

The person should contact the school in question but likely it's not a big deal if the school accepted her with a GPA < 3.0, because they know what she has.

None of us are going to repeal her acceptance -- only the school will. Call the school.

Thanks everyone for all the comments.. I'll pass em along. I don't know how likely she is to contact, but if she hears anything, I'll be sure to update, for interested parties 🙂
