I have very low GPA right now just about 3.0 or so... I have all the excuses... but on the paper it says I have low GPA. But the GPA of my later years of college is significantly higher than that of earlier years. I made really studpid mistakes and I guess I was not ready to be an adult yet back then... But now I know what I want to be and that is a dentist.

Will dental school admissions look at the added-up GPA(3.0) only? or will they pay more attention to the last two years of work? I have heard that med- and dental- schools value the last two years of your work more heavily. Do I still have a chance?

I feel you!!! I am in the same boat. I have talked to admission committees and they have told me to do a post bac or a special masters program. Like the one at Barry University. The only problem is that I havent take the DAT yet so I do not know whether I should apply this cycle and risk losing money if I am rejected or wait till next year..

I am a senior in college and my last year will really increase my GPA. But I am afraid that will not be enough because I received a D in ochem both semesters and that killed my gpa! I am a biochem major and received B's in my biochem classes but that still may not be enough....so I would suggest you to still apply to dental school being that you at least have a 3.0. What are your DAT scores?

Upward trend definitely plays a role in how they look at your GPA. Not to say that a masters or post bacc program couldn't benefit you. I've got a 3.2/2.9science and am considering an SMP next year.

The consider everything. They won't ignore the fact that you have a low GPA, but at the same time they won't ignore your hard work over the last two years, just because you made some mistakes at the beginning.
Your low GPA is there and there's not much you can do about it (unless of course you decide to get into post bac program and boost it). It will hinder your chances to some degree, because you'll be competing against people with 3.5+ GPAs, but that doesn't mean you don't have a chance at all!
