Hypothetically speaking: would it look bad if you had a decent GPA (like 3.6 or something) but your science GPA was low (like 2.9) and your arts GPA was high? AKA, your GPA is only "high" b/c of arts electives?

Yes, they look through your application with a fine comb. They will look at what kinds of classes you took, how heavy your load was with science classes, and your BCP (bio, chem, physics) courses/grades. I believe AADSAS even gives them separate GPA's for biology, chemistry, and physics. I caught a glimpse of the packet interviewers were using and it had this information.

ok thanks. how do you know what qualifies as an arts or science course. is there a chart or rubric available? Or should I just go by what my own school considers as being arts and science?

AADSAS gives you instructions on how to identify science courses.

The big ones are anything biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, etc.

And yes, 3.6 GPA with a significantly lower science is bad, especially since the consensus is most schools prefer sGPA
